What You Should Know About Acne

Acne - What you should know about it

Acne can have traumatic consequences for someone in their teens in the image-conscious invirons of High School. However, experts warn that acne not be treated as simply a cosmetic nightmare, but instead as an important body disfunction that can and should be addressed and corrected. The American Academy of Dermatologists warns that untreated acne can result in facial scarring that can last a lifetime.

A Google search turns up a number of webpages dedicated to addressing acne. Many of them do not clearly state who sponsors and maintains the webpage. Some give alarming facts and then ask you to describe your symptoms and send them in to receive advice. Before you start sharing your personal medical information with an unknown entity, it is wise to learn something about the subject.

Two webpages clearly state who their sponsors are and do not require an individual to share personal information before imparting quite a bit of knowledge.

Acne.org is the webpage of David Kern. He is a man that suffered from acne, studied the subject, developed a regimen of his own to solve his problem and now shares information and his regimen on his webpage.

AcneNet, the webpage of the American Academy of Dermatologists also provides a wide range of information on the subject. While AcneNet may carry more medical credentials, Acne.org appears to give a more comprehensive, and easy to follow primer on the subject. Whether Kern's reigimen is effective is not known, however, his information on the subject tracks with the AcneNet, but is better illustrated and more simply explained.

Both of these recommended webpages have "common myths about acne" sections. And some of the information is startling. They both claim that vigorous washing of the face can exacerbate acne rather than alleviate it. That is because acne is not caused by dirt or grime, but instead by facial pores that are not functioning properly. The pores are not opening to release natual oils that would otherwise escape from these tiny orafices. Heavy rubbing with a washcloth can actually irritate the malfunctioning pores further, making the acne worse.

Anyone grappling with the problem of acne should make Acne.org and AcneNet their first two stops. They will arm you with the fundamentals so that when you choose a treatment regemen it will be done on a well-informed basis.
