Blue nevus mole commonly occurs on people with an Asian descent. They are also called as blue nevus moles because of the distinguishing color of blue to blue-black moles. It is typically firm in consistency, and most of the time it is benign and non-cancerous. Sometimes it manifest in a nodule or papule that is sharply defined, this is because of the increased proliferation of melunocylcs.

What Causes Blue Nevus Mole?

The causes of blue nevus mole are not exactly known. However, most dermatologists would favor the idea that is if formed because of the increased accumulation of melanocytes that produce melanin in a single point in the skin during the stage where neural crest move to the skin.

What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Blue Nevus Mole?

Blue nevus mole is typically harmless, and may occur on any part of the skin. Blue nevus mole may form at any age. However, most blue nevus mole typically forms on teenagers and older children.

The characteristic blue color is due to the fact that blue color pigment forms deeper in the skin when you compare to other discoloration such as freckles and brown moles. If you view the nevus mole under a dermascopy, you will a surprising steel blue pattern that is uniform within the mole.

Nevus mole may be harmless, but there is still a need to do a confirmation that it is truly a nevus mole. Sometimes, blue colored moles maybe a symptom of nodular melanoma. A simple excision, and examination can rule out the possibility.

How To Treat A Nevus Mole?

Most treatment would depend on the size of the mole. Most dermatologists would suggest that if a blue mole is less than 1 millimeter, and remain constant in size for years, then there is no need to perform any excision or treatment.

If the mole is more than 1 cm, then it is advisable that is to be removed through excision to rule out the condition melanoma. If there is a sudden appearance of a blue mole, or a significant change in appearance of an existing blue mole, then surgical excision is advised with an immediate dermatopathologic examination just to be on the safe side.

Additionally, dermatologists categorize blue moles in two types. Ther are the two types that currently exist and is confirmed by clinical studies. First category is the common blue nevus mole, and the second is the uncommon cellular blue nevus mole.
