What You Need to Know When Fasting

Ward Tipton
Fasting is actually a viable way to lose weight but it should never be used as a diet or for long term results. It becomes somewhat controversial when people are fasting for spiritual reasons or for religious purposes but that aside, it is good to know how to use this valuable tool for weight loss properly so that you can use it to your advantage.

One fact is that no matter how well you eat, your body does not always work as efficiently as it should. Thus, excess wastes can (and often do) get trapped inside of your intestinal tracts. This excess waste alone can add up to sometimes four or five pounds. Apart from the fact that it is easy weight to lose, it is most unhealthy to leave it there inside your body to rot further. Above that is the fact that this excess waste can also lead to other, more serious health issues as well. One of the easiest ways to get rid of this unwanted by-product is through fasting and consuming large amounts of liquids.

Fasting is ideally suited to starting a weight loss program also. The benefits are numerous and all of them will help you to shed those unwanted pounds and reach your ideal weight quickly, easily and while remaining very healthy. One of the most obvious and helpful benefits is that your stomach will shrink some while you are fasting. You can stay relatively full with water and juice but you will find that it does not take nearly as long to digest and your stomach will shrink noticeably while you are fasting. Thus, when you actually begin your diet or other weight loss program, you will not suffer from all of the hunger pangs that are sometimes associated with commercial diet programs.

Another benefit is the rapid weight loss that will occur while fasting. This really is not due to your starving to death either, as you can keep full with water and fruit juice. Remember all of that excess waste that was adding those excess pounds to your waist? The vast majority of this waste will be removed during a short fast and those first four or five pounds will go pretty fast ... no pun intended. After you finish your fast, a healthy diet will help to prevent that build-up from becoming a regular occurrence.

It is not a very good idea to fast for more than three days at a time though some people will fast for up to seven days. As with any weight loss program, you should always check with a licensed and practicing medical professional before you begin your diet. Still, most people will not suffer too much for a three day fast and the benefits far outweigh the detriments. Fasting should not be a tedious experience that you have to endure. With a good selection of liquids, it can actually be very refreshing, help to re-invigorate you and get you well on your way to your ideal weight.
