What You Should Know About Flight Liquid Bans

If you are planning on catching a flight anytime soon, you might want to re-check your packed bag. There are some new rules that you will have to implement into your luggage. The airport security has now banned all liquids over three ounces in size on the flight deck.

No matter when you plan on flying, it is suggested that you completely understand and apply this new travel ban. Due to the fact that nearly everyone, children, men and women alike, use liquid products on a daily basis, it is likely that you will need to find a new way to move them with you. When considering possibilities, you may want to keep in mind that this liquid ban only pertains to the flight deck. So if you need to bring liquids over three ounces in size with you, you should pack them in your checked baggage, but not in your carry on luggage. Remembering this can help make your traveling much easier.

When attempting to figure out which liquids you should pack in your checked luggage, it is probably best to think about them in categories. This will help make it easier on yourself, due to the fact that there are so many different items you need to know about. Attempting to look at each individual item would be very difficult.

The first set of items that you should check over are your hygiene and beauty items. Many items that you may pack in your carry on bag without a second thought belong in this group, because so many health items are liquid or gel based. For example, you may normally pack lotion or hand sanitizers to make things more comfortable for your flight. However, if there is more then three ounces of liquid, that is no longer allowed. You must also remove your liquid based make-up products from your purse if you plan on taking it on the flight deck with you. These products include liquid foundations, lip gloss, and mascara. Even if you have small travel sized shampoo, conditioners, mouthwash, toothpaste, or body wash over three ounces, you still have to pack those items in your checked luggage in order to travel with them. If you attempt to put more then three ounces of them in your carry on they will likely be discarded by the security guards checking your luggage. If you do bring the small amounts in your bag, they must all be placed into a zip lock bag.

You also cannot have any beverages in your carry on. It used to be that you could bring your own drinks on to the flight in case you got thirsty, or if you wanted a specific beverage that they did not offer. This is no longer the case. Any beverages, even those bought at restaurants or shopping stores beyond the security check point must be discarded before entering the plane.

Believe it or not, there are also a few food products that are banned from flights due to the fact that they are liquid based. Items like soup, pudding, Jello, and yogurt just to name a few, are not allowed on the plane. If you plan on bringing snacks with you, small dry snacks are your best bet. These items will be easiest to carry on without any problems.

Clearly, there are numerous products which have a gel or liquid base that are banned from your carry on bags. However, there are a few exceptions that you may need to know about. Along the lines of food or drink, the only liquids allowed on the plane with you are infant formula or other milk based products used to feed babies. They are allowed on the plane, but are likely to be examined very closely. You are allowed to have more then three ounces of these products.

An additional exemption to the rule is your eye care products and medicine. In order to be granted permission to bring liquid medications on board, they must be prescribed to you or your dependent and must be in the original prescription bottle, regardless of the size. You will often have to prove this fact with your identification. Non-prescribed products, like saline solution and eye drops, are allowed on board but can be no more the three ounces in size.

As you can see, these bans, if you did not know about them, could make your traveling more difficult. However, as long as you follow the simple rule of packing liquids in your checked luggage and not your carry on, you should be fine. Do not forget that you are allowed to take necessary liquids like formula and medication on board with you. By keeping these things in mind you will make your flight a much easier one.
