What You Need to Know About Night Vision Cameras

When working in the night or needing to see in the "dark" you will need to use specialist equipment to enable you to see. There are night goggles and binoculars which use infra-red that can be put to use. You can also employ night scopes like those used on firearms.

The night vision equipment that we will concern ourselves with here, is the camera.

Most night vision cameras simply concentrate the light that is already available and will work adequately in most areas. Some night vision cameras simply detect infrared and use this light for recording or transmitting the images found. Others have infrared sources that they use to light up the target area.

For most well lit areas, a standard infrared camera will be needed. However, for areas with poor or no light at all, a camera with an infrared light source would be more suitable.

These night vision cameras are useful for security purposes where they can be employed to monitor the interior of stores and warehouses at night against thieves and robbers, for instance. They can also be employed outside buildings to record and monitor any activity in the vicinity.

The military also employs night vision cameras for their activities, either during defensive action or in combat including aircraft.

These cameras can also be used by the police in pursuing suspects at night as the camera can track a fugitive by their body heat.

For the home, the cameras can be mounted outside to capture and record any movements in the night hours. They can also be used inside, especially to monitor the baby.

There are also wireless models that can be mounted in strategic areas for business or home security without the risk of their detection through the presence of trailing wires. These cameras can transmit the images captured to a receiver located within the range of the transmitter mounted in the camera. The range will depend on the type and model of transmitter used.

One major benefit of night vision cameras is that they can "see" and capture images in what would be total darkness to the human eye. The light that they detect can not be seen by the human eye or will be far below the human eye threshold for proper vision. When using infrared light, the camera or scope will "see" quite clearly whereas the human eye will still see nothing.

The application for which the camera or night vision equipment is for will determine the type and model to use. If you can not decide on the best model to purchase, it might be a good idea to consult with companies involved with surveillance to provide you with advice based on their vast experience.
