What to Do When You Have a Lack of Motivation

Especially When Trying to Lose Weight or Other Tedious Tasks

Finding motivation for some people can be near impossible. I know that for me it is very difficult. I have sought out ways to find how to get motivated when it comes to performing tasks. Its not that I am afraid of working, or doing what needs to be done but sometimes I am so exhausted I have no energy to do anything. So to help me with this problem I have started by breaking the tasks up into smaller steps.

For instance I have been trying to get more exercise. It's not because I have a shortage of exercise DVD's or equipment, it's more a matter of wanting to do it. So now that I have established the desire to get healthier, I have made my schedule accommodate those changes. There are several walking paths nearby my house, so in the morning before I go to work, I take a few minutes to walk. Each day I add a few minutes to my routine. I take my IPod with me, and enjoy the nature scenery and walk to the beat of the music. It's a way to keep me moving and motivated to finish. I have already started seeing results and I plan to keep walking each day. By finding something that I enjoy I know that I will be able to maintain the routine.

It takes the average person 21 days or three weeks time to adapt and maintain new habits. The longer you do it the better. This goes for bad habits as well. I admit an am a habitual junk food eater, so with the walking I have also begun drinking more water. I have cut regular soda out of my diet and now I drink only diet or sugar free drinks. It's amazing how much weight you can lose by cutting out the caffeine. I tend to retain salt and once I cleansed the soda out of my diet I noticed that the bloating and swelling diminished.

Another way to get motivated is to find someone to walk with. If you have a friend or a spouse, or children take them with you. It's never too early or too late to become fit. Research shows that people who work out with someone especially a spouse are more likely to stick to the regiment. It's not necessary to make dramatic changes unless of course ordered by your doctor. For most of us we can make small changes that lead to bigger and healthier choices. With the abundance of online recipe sites there are an overwhelming amount of possibilities for eating healthier. Or you can create your own, substitute lower fat items, such as egg whites instead of whole eggs. The possibilities are endless. I have also listed some websites that may be helpful for losing weight.

One thing that I heard when watching the Huckabee show that helped me was that "if it wasn't a food 100 years ago, then you shouldn't eat it". With this mentality Huckabee managed to lose almost 100 pounds. Taking small steps can lead you to a healthier lifestyle. It all depends on how much motivation you need but there are many free or low cost programs. You can also invent your own program to suit your needs.
