Recent studies indicate that human beings are not meant to intake lactose after a certain age (about 6 months - 1 year.) Lactose is a product that comes directly from cows and other animals. Some scientists believe that all humans are lactose intolerant because humans are not supposed to drink the milk that is intended for baby calves. That milk is rich in nutrients that are intended only for the baby cow and not for human consumption.

However, when it comes to lactose intolerance, many people suffer the consequences of a "weak" stomach. When a person is lactose intolerant, he or she suffers from a condition where their stomach acids have a difficult time breaking down the components of the milk. The acid disturbs the stomach and does not break down the milk as rapidly as in most people. Therefore, the milk will churn in the stomach, causing cramping, pain and other discomfort. Often, people suffering from lactose intolerance must also frequently visit the bathroom, as the milk will run straight through their systems.

If you suffer from lactose intolerance, there are some solutions that can help to alleviate your discomfort. First and foremost, avoid foods that are rich in lactose. Instead of drinking milk, for example, drink soymilk or Lactaid. There are many dairy-free products that are available for individuals that suffer from extreme lactose intolerance. These options range from yogurt to ice cream, candies to breads.

There is also medicine that you can take to help your body process lactose more easily if you have lactose intolerance. Because lactose builds up in your body and causes a mucus in your throat and other organs, it is important that if you suffer from lactose intolerance, you invest in these pills. Lactose intolerance is easily combated when you can break down the lactose in your system so that your body can more easily digest it.

Lactose intolerance and be painful and embarrassing. However, if you are careful about controlling your intake and if you invest in some medicines, your lactose intolerance can go virtually unnoticed. See your doctor if you have special questions or concerns about your own lactose intolerance. Remember: there are always lactose alternatives in all food groups, including milk and cheese, that you can consume in order to avoid the not-so-comfortable side effects that accompany consuming lactose. Your doctor or a dietician may be able to make some recommendations for your specific dietary needs and preferences. .
