What You Can Learn from Snowboarding Experiences

The ski slope close to my home was one of the places that my friends and I loved to hang out at as kids. It was something to keep us busy with. We pretty much didn't have anything else to do the rest of the time as we were all under 21. We couldn't drink, we didn't like tennis, and we were hunting for a thrill that pandered to our taste for some hot-blooded sport. Our natural tendency towards the fast and the furious led us to snowboarding, which to our pleasant surprise, was a popular sport at the local ski slope.

One day, we went up to the ski slope and asked the ski slope lady there about getting started snow boarding. She was really nice, and told us that we didn't really need anything, and we could get our snowboards and snowboarding boots right from the ski company. All we needed were some lessons, which she informed us that we could get at 15 dollars per hour for group lessons. We hopped on to the deal right away, practically vibrating with excitement as we paid the deposit for the lessons. We were rearing to go, but the nice lady told us to cool our heels, and to wait for her to make the necessary arrangements with the instructor. We had to have at least five to ten hours of training before we could head to the slopes on our own, so we had to wait.

The lessons were fantastic. We weren't the only ones at the lessons; other kids from around the neighborhood were there as well, and well ahead of us in the game. We went through the lessons quickly; in fact, I wasn't sure that I was paying attention at all - I longed to get to the slope as soon as possible. Our instructor made everything seem so easy to understand. He made sure that everybody was on the same page as he was, and could tell if we had problems catching on. After about half an hour of theory lessons, he declared us ready to hit the slopes. He led us to the beginner slope, and when we boarded down the cold, slick snow, I felt a rush that made my hair stand on end, but in a good way, of course.

The snow slope became the local hangout, with snowboard lovers in our neighborhood gathering every now and then to slip and slide in the cold for fun.
