What I Learned Running My Own Business

Running a Writing Business and Writing SEO

Lyn Vaccaro

Running a business, depending on the type of business you're in, will probably be one of the most challenging undertakings you'll encounter. That's been the case for myself. I've had a couple businesses over the years; one, a retail health food store which was something I did before having my family, and now I run a my writing business and website. The latter is much more conducive to my large family life and I probably wouldn't currently change anything due to that.

Starting a Business

I'm of the opinion that picking a business to start is a lot like choosing a pet for your family. It needs to fit well within your lifestyle and family structure. When I had my health food store, I wasn't yet a mom and was able to be at the location of my store day and night if need be. Now, with 8 kids, I really couldn't even entertain that notion. That's why writing web articles, a website and ebooks are a good fit for my life now.

The Writing Business

I got started at this business purely by accident. I had found the Associated Content website after having my 8th baby and was intrigued by it, so I rolled up my sleeves and got to work.

I love writing and implementing words in ways that express thoughts effectively. That's why I currently work at this business. I certainly wouldn't be doing it for the money, that's practically non-existent. At least that's the case for me as of right now.

I started by writing what I knew about including health, wellness, alternative health, parenting, fertility and recipes. Next I added a website called Wholepicturehealth.com to the scenario and keep it stocked with plenty of articles, mostly about health and wellness, health foods, nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle in general. I find the whole picture of my business rather engaging and motivating and the more I write the more I want to.

I quickly came to understand the value of writing SEO (search engine optimizing) and how it all worked. Using that method of writing has done a lot for me with regard to structuring sentences and words in ways that will be helpful in page views for the best exposure of my work. It's also improved my speaking ability as well. I've been able to learn new words and ways in which to best use those words to get the best viewing result.

My Writing Future

Now I'm so excited about writing, I'm looking into a writing B.S. degree. I'm 50 and have never been more motivated to do something. I may not get my money out of the degree I pay to get, however, I'm not in it for the money and spend everyday appreciating my love for words and how they impact our lives. I do plan to move forward with my education in English and words in the future, regardless of my age. That's what I received from this writing business. Passion for words. What could be better?
