What to Do with Left Over Buttons

Deborah Anderson
What can you do with those buttons? You know, the ones that you have in that old miracle whip jar that are either left over from sewing projects that you have done or they were bought for sewing projects that you never got started on. Some of those buttons may even be off of old clothes that you no longer have hanging in your closet. So, what are you going to do with them?

Luckily there are many things that can be done with buttons that have been collected over the years. Projects where buttons can be used range from crafts to fashion, and all easy to do yourself. Another positive aspect of using these buttons is that it will save money also. Buttons can be substituted for items that would cost money to buy.

If you have a little girl who has a doll house, you can use your button collection to decorate her doll house. Buttons make good wall sconces, dinner plats and even interesting hangings to put on the doll house wall.

If you have friends over and all of a sudden it seems like a good idea to play a little poker. You get the cards out and begin the search for the poker chips. After spending time looking you decide they are lost for ever, what will you do for something to use instead of poker chips? You can use your collection of buttons. Separate them into different colors and assign a dollar amount to each color. Problem solved!

You have just been informed by your child that they need a bean bag to play a game with their friends. You are interested in this because the game will be played outside and you can have peace and quiet inside. But, you are all out of beans to make a bean bag with. What are you going to use? Yes, dig in your button collection for the smallest buttons that you have and put them in the bean bag. Now send the kids on their way and enjoy a little peace and quiet.

What else can you do with your collection of buttons? There are many answers to this question. You can string a bunch of them together on a piece of string and make a colorful and interesting garland for a Christmas tree or you could string them together on a smaller piece of string and make a necklace. These are both things that kids get a kick out of doing and will keep them busy for a few minutes. So the answer to the question of what can be done with a button collection ranges from person to person and is only limited by your imagination, and maybe the size of the button collection.
