What is Life Without Love?

Melissa Lawson
What is Life without Love;
what can it be without trust?
What can you do when you're lonely,
when finding a friend is a must?
What can you do with your time,
when you are always alone?
What kinds of things can you do,
when you are the only one?

What is Life without Love;
what can it be without friends?
Who can you turn to, to talk;
who do you have to defend?
Your only friend is yourself,
for there is no one to care.
For you, Fantasy is Reality,
for that's all you have to share.

I'm a single mom of one wonderful little girl. I've moved around a lot in my lifetime, and have been through many things. I consider myself a survivor.  View profile

    Whether we realize it or not, as human beings our existance depends on each other. Not just for the physical aspects of life, but we feed off of each other in an emotional and spiritual sense as well. The Buddhist philosphy of how we are all one and never seperate says it all.
    Great poem!

    "Fantasy is Reality", resonates with truth when a child has to live through things they can't bear. I had an incredibly evolved fantasy life, where I spent huge chunks of every day well into my teens. Even in class, or among other people, I could be in my other world. But I think it helped develop mental skills that work for me now as a writer. People do what they have to do to survive, whether it's blocking out emotions to function in a too-painful life, or retreating into a safer fantasy world to save our santiy. We all use our strengths to survive.

    I concur! Love to me is the essence of life. One simply cannot thrive without it. The good thing is that we all have the ability to find it - first within ourselves and then from others as we draw positive, loving people to us. Sometimes the hardest part is taking that fist step, which is learning to love yourself.
