What I like About American Idol

Mary E. Coe
American Idol is exposing many people that may have never been discovered, to the world of fame. It also gives the public a chance to see and hear talent that we would have never known was out there. American Idol also gives the people who don't even have a chance the opportunity to get there fifteen minutes of fame. This part of the show, I love it. Some of these people have no singing talent at all, but it's entertaining.

And they end up getting what they came for, fifteen minutes of fame. After It gets down to the last twenty four contestant, some of the talent on American Idol is awesome and some is, well, just OK. But, the judges see potential in all of them. A lot of great talent is exposed on American Idol. I started out watching this program for the talent. Then I fell in love with Simon's personality.

I love his honesty. He keeps it real. No matter how harsh, brutal, or nice Simon can be, he tells it like it is. He calls it as he sees it. He doesn't say what he feels the contestant or the audience want to hear. Simon doesn't give the contestants false hope. He tries to be very truthful and honest in his judgment. I believe he, in return help the contestant more. He helps them to understand what they are going to face in Hollywood and in the face of the public.

Sometimes it seems that Simon is too hard on a contestant, however, he is also being truthful. There are times when people need to hear the hard truth; it helps us to face reality. Simon does throw a lot of good compliments out there to the contestants when they deserve it.

Right or wrong Simon is not influenced by the public or the other judges. He knows talent, he knows what he likes, and he calls it as he sees it. I love the other two judges; they are great and are doing a great job. However, for me, Simon stands out. If there was such an award category for best judge of the year, Simon would have my vote. Sometimes he seems harsh or cruel. However, he is truthful and he does not give false hope. People need to hear the truth. If I was a contestant, which, I will never be, I wouldn't want a judge to mislead me and tell me that I had all this great talent, if I was just OK.

I don't feel that the other two judges are misleading in any way, like I said earlier. They are great. However, there is something about Simon that stands out as a judge. Sometimes I wish that Simon would lighten up a little. However, I love the way that he always keep it real. I believe an artist or a contestant should really listen carefully to what all the judges have to say. Use it in a positive way so it may lead to self improvements. There is always room for improvements. Simon does have a lot of very good points. He is an outstanding judge. He is really truthful and honest in his judgments.

I have to admit.. I do love laughing at the contestants that try out to become the next American idol... prior to the finals.. I can't believe often that some of them really believed that they really had talent in the first place and wonder if sometimes that the production itself pays for some of them to make fools out of themselves for the ratings on the show...

Sometimes Simon is a little more ornery than he needs to be. My opinion? Ratings. But he is a devilishly good looking "bad boy", isn't he!
