What to Look for when Forming a Major League Gaming Team

Qualities Every Teammate Should Have

Frank Girard
My tag is Muffeon and I am a former member of Team Hurricane, we had 20th seed for Meadowlands, but we got knocked out third round. I spent months trying to form my own team and trying out for teams trying to join that perfect team that could get top 8. The things I was looking for in a team were all the wrong things... I was looking to join a known team and a team with points. This thread is dedicated to giving you my opinion on what you should be looking for in a team during the 2009 season.

The True Value Of Points

Many MLG gamers believe that they are doomed to fail at a live event if their team does not have points. I have see many gamers sacrifice having a team they like just so that they can have a team with points. My team had 20th seed and we got knocked out third round, we even had a bye. So this year when you try and find a team I urge you not to worry about how many points you have.

What To Look For In A Teammate

When looking for a teammate there are several things that you are going to want to consider.

· How often can they be on?

· Do your practice schedules match?

· Do they have an attitude problem?

· Do you like them as a person (This is extremely important)?

· Are they a player that is going to improve or will they stay at the same skill level forever?

· Is there skill level adequate?

· COMMUNICATION: How good is their communication... when they speak do they help pump your team up?

The moral here is that you should look for qualities of loyalty, determination, and motivation in your teammates and not worry as much about being on a known team because in the end points are unimportant.

  • Motivation Is More Important Than Points
  • Communication Is Vital
  • Having Time To Practice Is Important
Did you know that Team Hurricane had 22nd seed and got knocked out third round at MLG Meadowlands after getting a first round bye?
