What You Should Look for in Obtaining Software for Your Computer

Timothy Scheiman
If you have ever downloaded or purchased software for your computer there are some things you need to know. This article discusses mistakes people make when obtaining software for their computer. Some of these suggestions may seem elementary but some people still forget them anyway.

Minimum hardware requirements

This is one of the biggest mistakes people make they purchase or download software that there computer is not able to run it. They also will obtain software and their computer meets the minimum but their computer runs very sluggish. The reason being for this is you must just not meet the minimum but exceed the minimum. The more your computer exceeds the minimum requirements the better the software will run. This is never more true when people try to run online games where they just meet the minimum. Their computer will run very sluggish and most likely the user will not be able to play the game at all or with great difficulty.

Software that resides on the taskbar

This is where the software is loaded on your computer in a quick launch mode. When it does this it grabs precious resources that your computer needs to run Windows and other applications. Never allow a program to reside on the taskbar unless you use it all the time. An example of this would be your anti-virus and anti-spyware. The less programs that sit down by your clock the better. I always say don't allow any computer program to rule you. You are in charge so make sure to remove them from booting when Windows starts.

Free programs that load others

Some programs out there have software attached to them that use your computers processor when your not using it. This is spyware and should be avoided at all cost. Be careful what browser helpers you install. Google and Yahoo Tool Bars are examples of these that are good for your computer and are not harmful in anyway. Some browser helpers are actually browser hacks and hijackers that can drive you insane with useless pop-ups and spyware. My nephew recently had this happen to his computer and I had to go into his registry to eliminate the problem. I found he had a Trojan and I had to use extreme measures to get rid of it.

Ask yourself if its free what are they trying to promote. I recommend that everyone get Spywareblaster. Its available at Javacoolsoftware.com. You must update it manually about once every month but its totally free. It keeps unwanted sites from putting malicious software on your computer. If there was ever any software you should absolutely download this is the one.

Before you buy or download

Before you get any software make sure you need it. Many people load up their computers with software they will never use. Just because it looks cool doesn't mean you need it on your computer. Make sure read any reviews you may also want to search the Internet and see if anyone has had problems with the software your thinking of getting. Just like when you shop do your homework and don't download everything you see on the Internet.

Follow these simple suggestions and you will have more enjoyment from your computer.
