What Makes a Good Online Auto Insurance Website?

Evan Nash
The "old days" of auto insurance are really not that long ago, but they aren't entirely "good old days" when you consider the delays that occurred between the time a quote was requested and then received. Not only did you have to physically go to the insurance agent's office or get them on the phone, but you had to wait a little while to get an actual quote. Now, in our instant world you can get the information you need right on your computer in a matter of seconds. This being said, there are a few things you should look for that will be a mark against the credibility of the company.

1. Every good auto insurance website should be able to educate you along the way to getting your quote. All coverage options should be explained in detail and you should have the option to back out if you would like to do so. Companies that do not educate their customers are likely trying to hide coverage exclusions that could make your policy worthless.

2. Good auto insurance websites today must have the option to file a claim right there on their homepage. There is no reason why calling in a claim should be the only option, though it is still the most popular. If you file your insurance claim online you don't have to worry about long lines and missed appointments, you file your claim and wait for your call back.

3. The biggest red flag of a bad auto insurance website that good website owners should avoid is advertising how easy it is to get a quote and then becoming burdensome. If the website promises that you will get a quote in minutes, then when your information is concluded they get squirrelly and say someone will call you back, just stop. All of the information you have put in to this point is meaningless as it was not even used, just as a tool to get your phone number.

There are a lot more good auto insurance websites than there are bad in the world today as all have learned from the mistakes of others. However, some will still scheme to get your phone number, address and contact information and you must be aware. Remembering what makes an auto insurance company feel legitimate and professional is what you should be doing at all times. As long as you feel that you are on a team with successful tools you will be ok.
