What Makes a Good Wife?

It is not always easy to tell if a man has married a good wife at the start of their marriage, but it will become apparent soon enough. A couple can enjoy a really close marriage if they are well suited to one another and learn to get along, despite their differences.

A good wife does not nag!

It is easy to fall into a routine of nagging husbands to get things done and to keep on and on until they are run into the ground with the criticism. But it does not have to be that way. Rather than going over the previous month of faults, try to ask for your husband's help to accomplish a task. When you do so, do not then go back and tell them again within a short space of time. Give them a chance to do it. A husband who is nagged by his wife will be tired and will eventually just tune out, rather than listen to his wife's criticism.

Compliments him

A wife who focuses on the positive aspects of her husband's personality will really win him over. She can do this be complimenting him on a job well done, on his help in finishing a project, or just for being who he is.

Is supportive

A wife who supports her husband will be highly valued by him. Most men do not appreciate having to fight a battle with their wives over decision making. If a wife shows her support for him, she will earn the respect and esteem of her husband.

Respects her husband

Showing respect for her husband is closely linked to being supportive. She will try to work in harmony with her husband and not against him. She knows that they are on the same side and strives to prove that through her actions.

Isn't "right" all the time

A wife who tries to get the upper hand in a disagreement by trying to be "right" all the time will not be very successful. It is draining for couples to fight a constant battle of wills. Does it really matter who is right and who is wrong? It is better to agree to disagree and resolve the hurt feelings, than spend hours going through the rights and wrongs a couple have supposedly endured.

Shows love for her husband

Men need to feel loved and secure in their marriage too, so do not forget to demonstrate your feelings for him! Tell your husband how you feel about him. Do not assume that because you have been married ten years or longer that he knows how you feel for him.

A good wife will help to create a happy marriage all round, because the husband will feel like imitating his wife's example and will respond to her efforts to please him. No marriage is perfect and so no one will display ideal qualities in a marriage all the time. But it is worth working on making improvements to a marriage all the time. Marriage does not stay put. It changes over time, as different challenges and problems come along. But a couple can learn how to be even happier if the wife and husband work together for the common good of their marriage.
