Stumped when it comes to the complexity of the human mind and how consciousness works? So are experts, writes Achenbach. There is no consensus among those who study the phenomenon of human sentience; the only agreement among scientists studying consciousness is that very little is known about it. Leaders in the field admit that human consciousness is "waiting" for its Einstein, while researchers are trying to secure $4 billion for a 10-year initiative called The Decade of the Mind. A decent read, but in no way conclusive: even a century from now, experts say, our consciousness will still remain a mystery.
