What a Man's Shoes Say About Him

Girl Talk: How Important Are a Man's Shoes?

Ranee Wright
A man's shoes are just as important as women's and could mean the difference between landing a job or relationship to bombing it. What you wear is just as important as what shoes you choose, both befitting the occasion. What a man's shoes say about him is immense. You can learn very much from men's footwear.

How important cleanliness, loyalty or style is to a man can be deduced from a man's choice of shoes. Cheap shoes obviously represent a thrifty man, which can be both a good and bad thing. If you have old worn out shoes that you have a certain attachment to, it may send the message that you are loyal. For the backwoods women, a man with a worn/dirty pair of boots is attractive. Women that find fashion important will especially appreciate your choice of footwear. If you have clean and stylish shoes, you may symbolize the metro male, not a bad thing according to me! If you are worried about waste, please donate your old shoes to the Salvation Army or other charities.

The sentimental man's old shoes: My ex wore a pair of old, nasty Converse shoes, given to him by the guitarist from White Zombie, Jay Yuenger. I found him wearing these dirty old shoes repulsive. Women that appreciate cleanliness will appreciate men not wearing old nasty shoes. Men: know when to get rid of your sentimental and/or old shoes!

The shoes a man wears may sometimes go unnoticed but not when it counts most. There are so many shoe styles and wearing the right shoe is imperative to making the right impression. Loafers, slip on boots, sneakers and even desert boots[i]. I have purchased shoes on ebay and was pleased with my purchase. Your best bet for buying the right shoe is shopping at your local mall and/or footwear store and test-driving the fit.

General tips on what not to wear (style faux pas): socks with sandals, sneakers or work boots with dress pants or suit, boots with shorts, cheap shoes, old shoes. Most important of all, if your shoes are dirty, take them off at the door. If your shoes smell, keep them outside.

Buying quality shoes generally pays off. Cheap shoes have a greater chance of smelling and decreased longevity. Closing argument: get rid of your old, nasty, stinky footwear! Remember the message your shoes deliver without saying a word.

I didn't see anything about shoes being comfortable or functional, two items high on my list!

My husband and your ex have something in common. Hidden in the back of his closet is an old pair of beaten up Converse sneakers. I had to laugh when I read that in your article.

    Sandals with socks - a definite no-no!

Very true. I only hate it when a guy has better shoes than I do.

I would never get rid of a pair of shoes given to me by a member of White Zombie. As a matter of fact I would sleep with them on:)

I go for comfort, not necessarily the most stylish.
