What Massage Therapy is and How it Can Help You

Massage therapy is a form of alternative "medicine" that has been used for centuries. It is complex in it's nature even though it seems like something more simple. It is difficult in the fact that one must learn the basis of anatomy and physiology of the human body before applying massage to anyone. Doing massage wrong can hurt, rather than heal. It may just seem like some kneading and rubbing, but it is really so much more.

Massage works the muscles and it helps to stimulate the lymphatic system, which helps to clean out the bodies glands and get the blood pumping and flowing smoothly. Massage is great for people with poor circulation.

Massage therapy can be done with or without the use of oils. But different oils can be used to help with different ailments and they can also help with stimulation and relaxation. There are many reasons a person should get a massage. Massage therapy can help with tension problems (like back pain, shoulder pain), relieving anxiety and even helping to reduce the effects of stress. Massage can help with old (and new) sports injuries. It is good for people who have chronic back problems. It is also great for any kind of back or neck pains, stress related or not.

Massage helps to stimulate and nourish the skin. It also helps to strengthen the immune system. It can even help to reduce high blood pressure. Massage can aid with flexibility and range of motion, as well is help to relieve tension in the muscles and reduce stiffness in the joints. Those with muscle spasms can greatly benefit from the effects of massage therapy. Along with tension itself, massage can also help relieve other effects of tension such as headaches, migraines, eye strain and stomach problems.

Massage also helps to improve posture by relaxing the muscles so they can work better. It improves circulation and blood flow. Massage can also be used to help alleviate pregnancy discomforts and it can make for an easier labor.

Massage can be blended with acupressure and reflexology (which uses a form of acupressure) for even better health benefits and pain relief. Some message therapists also blend the universal power of Reiki (a touch therapy that uses energy from the universe) in conjunction with their massages to treat even more ailments within the human body.
