What is Your Mind to You?

Beyond the Mere Mind, and into the Higher-Self

Dean
What is the mind? A lot of people admire the power of the mind - some say that it is limitless - and yet there are many who despise its function as well as its nature. So then, what makes the mind so useful? And what is it about it that other people wish to annihilate or perhaps transcend?

You see, the mind is an absolutely necessary tool. Without it, we wouldn't be able to accumulate money or food; we wouldn't be able to pay the bills. What the mind is, nonetheless, is our primal means to survival. It asks questions and it doubts; it judges and labels, according to its beliefs, about what is "good" and what is "bad." Sometimes however, the mind loses grasp of its ability to distinguish itself from itself. As ironic that may sound, the mind undoubtedly holds strict limits, and is unable to grasp concepts beyond rationality, such as emotions, intution - the inner sensations, if you will.

Anything is and everything is possible in this Universe. Because it is interconnected is it therefore infinite, and thus a person is capable of attaining whatever reality they choose or seek. All that opposes the person's dreams and wishes, or at least seems to oppose, is merely an illusion. Fortunately, all illusions are only a product of fear, and thus a product of the mind and the ego. The article delves deeper now, as it is now realized that the mind does not only have its limits, but that it creates its own limits, by means of fear, rationalization, and the ego itself. The mind, fear, and the ego, are one and the same thing.

Higher above the ego (much higher actually), is the aspect of the Soul. You may also call it the Spirit or the Being, or the Higher-Self. The Spirit and-or Soul, is of an infinite and un-limiting nature. Like the Universe (essentially it is the Universe), it knows no boundaries and perpetuates in contrary to all that is illusion and to all that is fear. It is fairly ironic to say that the Universe is boundless when in actuality; it is we who are boundless.

Only the mind tells to itself that limits exist. People become boxed by the mind and its rationality - the perpetual back-and-forth of the inner chatterbox. It can quite difficult to turn off the mind, or perhaps in another sense, to access this Higher portion of Self. Once the mind has been transcended however, all problems are seen as mere illusions; oppositions crumble in the vision of the Higher Self; and essentially, everything which one has always dreamed for becomes absolutely tangible and possible.

  • Name some ways you use the mind to get through the day.
  • How does this mind influence you?
  • Now, in what ways does it limit you?
The mind (ego) does exist at the moment of birth. It is learned in infancy through adulthood. It is a learned attribute.
