What Mom Really Wants This Mother's Day

Janet Hunt
Mother's Day will soon be here to be celebrated by families in honor of mothers all around the world. Expensive gifts, candy, flowers and jewelry are nice and much appreciated when received by mothers on Mother's Day. However, if you could see deep into mom's heart and soul into some of the things she really desires, here's what she might say.

Rest

I know it sounds too simple, but mothers, almost all mothers, would agree to needing more rest. Life is too busy for most working mothers and filled with hectic schedules, deadlines and chores that are waiting to be completed. There are never enough hours in the day. How can you give your mother (or your wife) rest you might ask? Take on some of the tasks without having to be asked, and without asking her. Clean the house, cook the meal, wash the clothes, get the groceries or run that errand. It will be one less thing on mom's "to do" list. She will thank you from the bottom of her heart!

Alone Time

Alone time? You want me to leave mom alone for Mother's Day? Well, yes, in a sense. Mothers are so busy being moms, being employees, being most of the time, "all things to all people" that they seldom have time for themselves; time to indulge of some of life's greatest little pleasures. A whole day for a mom to spend on doing the little enjoyable things she never gets to do such as taking a long luxurious bubble bath, reading a good book, having her nails done, watching her favorite shows or maybe even just taking a nap! Pack up the kids (dad), take them on an outing and give mom some much deserved "me" time.

Recognition

We take moms for granted and very seldom give them the recognition they truly deserve. Moms spend so much of their time making sure everything goes well for their family and working out everyone's problems. What she really wants to know is that you know and appreciate everything she does. Even though she does not ask for your praise, she truly deserves it! No matter what your plans are for your mother this Mother's Day, do not let the day pass without giving her the recognition she deserves!

Sorry I missed this! I took the day off from work and cleaned my house and yard all day...I finally squeezed in a nap at 7 last night! I think it is always nice to be recognized! Thoughtful piece! Hope your day was sweet!

I think it changes as we age, my gram rests throughout the week but she can't wait to go out, I'm on the other side of things, i would like time to myself,

I agree with you, but I know when my kids were young, I might have felt guilty indulging in "me" time. And now, like Linda says, I truly enjoy spending lots of time with my kids (and grandkids).
