What is a Mommy Card?

There's been a lot of advertisements that I've noticed lately on the internet for something called a mommy card. Being a mom to a young toddler, I was curious to find out more about what this latest fad in motherhood is all about.

What is a Mommy Card?
A Mommy Card is like a business card, but for moms. It gives some quick information about the mom and her children, and is used to easily and quickly pass along contact information.

Who can use a Mommy Card?
Any mom can use a Mommy Card, really. Stay-at-home moms, working moms....it really doesn't matter. Just think about the last time you were at a playground with your kids, and you had fun with another mom there and her kids, and how easy it would be to hand over a card with all your contact information on it. That's what a Mommy Card is for.

What information can you include on a Mommy Card?
There are no hard and fast rules as to what to include, but generally, you would list your name, phone number, email address, social networking user name (ie Facebook), and the names and ages of your kids. Mommy cards were created to make it much easier for busy moms to pass along their information without having to jot it down on a piece of paper and possibly losing it.

What extras can you include on a Mommy Card?
Besides the usual contact information, you could also include fun stuff like little facts about your kids (favorite toy or animal) or fun little facts about you (what your favorite pastime is). Some websites will even let you print a picture of yourself and/or your kids on your card.

What other uses could you have for a Mommy Card?
Mommy Cards have a few other uses that can help make life more convenient for the busy parent. For example, stashing a couple in your child's jacket or backpack, etc., can make it easier for someone to contact you should your child get lost (think: zoo, shopping mall, etc.). Also, they're great to give to the baby-sitter so that she can contact you quickly if she needs to. They're also great to keep with a child's belongings, especially school supplies like book bags and lunch boxes, so that if they become lost, it's easy to contact the owner.
