What Most Kayak Owners Don't Know About Choosing a Proper Fishing Rod Holder

Holders used for fishing rods take the inconvenience out of fishing for a variety of reasons. One reason is that it is good storage for the pole, and really comes in handy when you're in a kayak. Rather than holding the paddle between your legs as you fish, a rod holder holds the pole so that you don't have to, therefore enabling anyone to use more than one rod or even two or three paddles. Trolling becomes much easier since the holder maintains the rod in place as one travels to various fishing spots. Also, as the angler unhooks a fish, the rod holder keeps the rod steady. This enables the kayak to catch multiple fish at once, with no problem.

Here are some tips that are going to be extremely helpful for you in determining the types of rods one should purchase.

There are basically two types of fishing rod holders, one is attachable to the exterior of the kayak and one that is put in the flush. So should you attach or not attach? They both function differently and both work well accordingly but the choice all depends on the individual's preference.

To those who prefer the unattached: The unattached type of fishing rod holder is manufactured in two ways (straight and the angled) with most kayaks applying the angled form. By making use of the angled form one has a good chance of being able to stroll because the rods veer away from the kayak.

To those who instead would rather use the attached: When the straight version is used it is possible to keep the rod near the middle of the boat which means it works best for keeping the rod stored. This straight type of fishing rod holder is good for the Tower and Cobra Navigator brand of kayak, if that's what you use.

The do-it-yourself fishing rod holder: One option that you may not have considered is simply to craft your own personalized fishing rod holder. You can do this with nothing but regular PVC pipe. Or one could also start by getting themselves a milk crate and affixing it to the kayak with straps.

Fishing rod holder alternatives: There is another type of holder that can be put above the kayak. Usually, these are tubes that are called RAM as well as Titelock. As the name implies, Titelock provides a lock for the rod and in most cases involves a male and female part. This part difference allows for separation. Manufacturers that build this variation are Attwood, Scotty and Roberts.

With this knowledge, you can find just the right holder to meet your fishing needs. Now go out and land the big one!
