I've known about Star Wars: The Old Republic since around summer of 2008 when I got an email from the company about the site/forums being up soon. I signed up as soon as they were live. Now that the pre-order is available to select areas, including the US and Europe, more and more people are talking about SWTOR and its expectations. It's easy to say it is the most highly anticipated MMORPG ever.
What do I look forward to most from SWTOR? Here are some of my top reasons for getting the game.
A Solid WoW-Replacement
When it comes to MMORPGs, it's easier to list the ones I have not tried but currently I play WoW, after an on-again off-again relationship for the past six years. I've played since beta and quit several times over the years but always end up coming back to it. I'm more than ready for something new so you can count me in part of the gang who are looking to TOR to provide that for us.
My WoW guild is planning to move there and we're not alone in our hopes that TOR will be a great WoW-replacement. It's not just World of Warcraft that TOR may be replacing, however. I hear just as often, "I'm playing RIFT until TOR" or "I'm playing Aion until TOR".
I Love Star Wars
This game is fitting for any Star War fan, whether you have played previous Star Wars games or not. Even if you've never played an MMORPG, this is a game you can appreciate. Years in the making, BioWare and Lucas Arts are focusing on storyline as a top priority, making this all about Star Wars and more in-depth than any other game of its kind. I'm also following the Star Wars: The Old Republic- The Lost Suns comic series and got my first edition signed by the writer, Alexander Freed, a senior writer for SWTOR. The comics are supposed to lead in with the storyline of the game directly so I'm super excited about that as well.
Best MMORPG of Our Time
If things go as expected, TOR is set to be the best MMORPG of our time- and in history, to date. BioWare hopes to expand SWTOR into 2025 with more worlds, more story and more gameplay. They are currently promising each of the six classes 200 hours of gameplay, not counting things like raiding, crafting or other multiplayer aspects of the game. This alone is more than any MMORPG to date has provided. It's expected to be less about the "grind" and more about the experience. This is something I have been desperately seeking in the gaming world for quite some time. In an all-around, general sense of the genre, TOR promises to have more to offer than any other that has come before it or likely to come after it in the near future.
Spending Time with Friends and Family
Another reason I am looking forward to TOR, is to play with friends and family. My husband and I plan to play together and we have loads of friends and family interested in the game, even those who have not played other games with us previously. It's easy to see how this might be a game that brings families together. SWTOR is already bringing generations together as family members of all ages want to play.
TOR's coming! Are you ready?
