Movie Number One
With hail in Japan
And holes in the ice
It's the beginning of something
That's really not nice
A storm is a brewing
Of that we are sure
But for millions the cold
Is too much to endure
The Mexican border
It needs to be crossed
But can only be done
At an enormous cost
So what is this movie
Can you get it, oh buoy
It you can solve the clues
You have two days to enjoy
The clues to this movie fooled most people, and yet the answer was right there, if only you study the clues.
This is an epic disaster movie that begins with holes in the ice, more specifically a whole chunk of the polar ice cap breaking off.
It then follows with unexpected hail and ice storms in India and Japan, and massive storm systems, the like of that have not been seen before, at least for thousands of years.
A major climate shift is in process, and this results in tremendously cold weather, enough to freeze people in an instant.
By the time the President is convinced that this is for real, it's too late to save millions of people in the North of the USA, and so for them the cold is too much to endure.
The President evacuates the Southern States to Mexico, but in a surprise move, the Mexican Government closes the border to refuges from the USA.
At enormous cost, namely waiving the debt of Latin America to the USA, the borders are re-opened, and millions pour into Mexico and safety.

Two more clues remain...
The first is "Oh Buoy". One of the indications of the rapid climate change is alarm signals going off on a number of buoys in the North Atlantic, caused by rapidly changing temperatures as the Gulf Stream ceases to flow.
The second clue is "You have only two days to enjoy", which directly give a clue to the title of the movie.
The movie is of course, the 2004 blockbuster, The Day After Tomorrow.

Movie Number Two
A mischievous spell
Is a frightful curse
For a pretty young girl
It couldn't be worse
Her parents both die
In this often told tale
And a wicked new Mom
Makes home seem a jail
Her secret gets out
Stepsisters get bold
And before you know it
She has to do as she's told
She falls for a prince
But is put under a spell
And only true love stops
Her killing him as well
The ending is happy
They both share a kiss
But did you figure the clues
And guess which movie this is?
Some people got this movie, and some were confused by the clues (he he). This is a variation on a classic story, that has been filmed in so many different ways in the past.
In this version, a witch casts a spell on a baby girl as a gift, only the spell makes the girl obey any command that is asked of her. Over the years she manages to keep this a secret, but finally it is discovered.
Her Mother dies, and her father marries another woman, with two daughters. She pretends to love him, but as always is only after his money.
When he dies from an accident, his daughter is treated like a servant, and especially once the wicked stepsisters discover her secret, her life is hell.
A chance meeting with the Prince leads to them having adventures, and they fall in love, however the King's Brother, who murdered his brother, is plotting to take the throne.
He learns of the girl's weakness, and casts a spell upon her, so that unwittingly she will kill the Prince.
But true love endures, and the girl cannot kill him, and so there is a happy ending.
Did these clues lead you to the movie yet?
The story is of course a variation on Cinderella, but the movie is not Cinderella. It's also not "Ever After" starring Drew Barrymore, a really good movie if you get a chance to see that one.
The movie is actually "Ella Enchanted" from 2004, starring the enchanting Anne Hathaway.
I first saw this movie because my daughter wanted to see it, and thought that it would be absolutely horrible, being a teen flick. I was very pleasantly surprised, and between the narration by Eric Idle, the amazing sets and costumes, the wonderful performance by Anne Hathaway, and a host of cameo roles, it's brilliantly funny. I can only describe it as being rather like "Shrek with real actors". Rent it!

Movie Number Three
It begins in the mountains
This girl loves to sing
Her true love of music
Makes her late for everything
She is sent to take care of
A family of kids
Who terrorise their nannies
And where music is forbid
She dresses them in curtains
And they learn about songs
But Dad's money grabbing mistress
Tries to make things all go wrong
They win a music contest
So long and off to bed
With Jerry in pursuit
To the mountains they head
So can you guess this movie
The rhyme is full of clues
Is it a ray of golden sun
Or have you got the movie blues?
Most of you guessed this movie as I thought you might .
Literally the movie begins in the mountains with a girl who loves to sing.
Her love of singing means that the is often late for things, in particular prayers at the Abbey, where she is studying to become a Nun.
If you didn't get it before, you surely must have by now, as most people have probably seen this movie at least once.
She is sent to act as Nannie for a Naval Captain who is a widower with seven children. They terrorise their nannies, but she is not to be outdone, and gradually gains their trust and respect.
Music is forbidden in the house, since the Captain's late wife loved music, and the children have been brought up in a military style household, and they never get out to play.
She takes some old curtains that are being thrown out, and makes clothing for them all, and off they go to the city, and as well as teaching them to play, she teaches then the ABC's of music, or more correctly the "Doh Ray Mi's".
Their father is courting a woman who is after his money (same old story), and she is jealous of the nanny, causing her to leave.
Matters are coming to a head however, since this is pre-war Austria, and the Germans are not happy that the Captain does not approve of them taking control of the country.
The nanny has entered the children in a local music contest, which they win, they use this as a ruse to make their escape over the mountains to neutral Switzerland.
"So Long, Farewell" is a song that the children sang at a dinner party at home before going off to bed, and the also sing it at the music festival, before disappearing.
If you by some miracle hadn't guessed it by this point, the last clue said "A Ray Of Golden Sun", which is also from the song "Do Ray Mi" from this movie.
It is of course as many of you guessed, the 1965 classic "The Sound Of Music" starring the delightful Julie Andrews.
I remember seeing this when it first came out at the cinema in the 1960's, and marveled at the story and the songs. In recent years my two young daughters have been watching it and enjoying it, and it is not only wonderful that they can enjoy it, it makes me happy to see them singing along with the classic songs.
