How can you tell that you are suffering form MCS? This can be a very difficult task because even most doctors can have a hard time diagnosing this problem because the symptoms are so wide ranging and can be other ailments not related to MCS. Also the symptoms can be different for each person. While one person will get the occasional headaches, another person's symptoms may be life threatening.
Some people have mild to server reaction to chemicals that are present in our environments at work and at home. A very small percentage of people will have a sudden drastic reaction to chemicals but for most people the symptoms develop over a long period of time. This is why it can be hard to diagnose because you can be living in your home for years or have worked in the same place for years without having experienced any problems before.
Some of the most common symptoms are headaches, fatigue, dizziness, rashes, lack of concentration, heart palpitations, seizures, insomnia and many more. (Many of these symptoms are from other illnesses so please check with your doctor first.) This is not meant to worry anyone but to hopefully make you become aware that MCS may be a problem to bring up to your doctor. I think everyone should keep this condition in mind as it is just another reason to make your home as green as you can.
So what should you do if you have been diagnosed with MCS? First make a game plan with your doctor on how to handle the situation. If you get sick at work you will need to do some investigation to help find out what is the cause. This may be difficult at work if they can not change the environment you work in. Let's say you work at a paint factory. You may have become sensitive over the years and there is nothing they can do about it.
If you're sick at home then I suggest you make your house as "Green" as possible. Making your house Green means making a healthier environmentally friendly house to live in. Try to use energy efficient, mostly natural non-toxic materials and cleaners.
