What You Must Have to Prepare for a Natural Disaster

Denise
There may be a million things that you can do to prevent certain occurrences from happening in your life. However, there are also some things that you cannot stop like death and natural disasters. Due to the global warming as a result from chemicals we use that is drawn up into the universe by the sun. The sun's protective ozone layer that controls the amount of heat we receive here on the earth is torn. Now our earth is in havoc from floods to tsunami's to earth quakes to tornado's. Moreover, the cost to repair the damage can bring on a heavy financial strain on your budget. There are a variety of things you should make sure you have to protect yourself in case of an emergency.

Home Insurance

It is mandatory that you purchase home insurance that covers all possible hazards in your area at the time you sign for your mortgage. If you did not do this, make sure to look around for insurance companies that may have a discount, and get it as soon. Housing insurance requires you to pay the annual premium up front and then make monthly payments. This will cover the costs according to your insurance amount to relieve you of having to pay out of pocket.

Safety Deposit Or Evacuation Box

This is a must have for all important documents such as account numbers, medical records, wills, bills, and insurance policies. You should also keep your family photos in it too in case of a disaster. Make sure it is fire and water proof to save you from having to wait weeks to get these papers again. Look on line for companies that can hold this information for you after you scan these papers in. Be sure to check the BBB and scan these papers to save on disk as a backup.
To prevent hackers from stealing your information, keep your computer safe by using Norton software that will protect your computer.

Make A List

You should have a list of every valuable and sentimental thing you own in case a disaster should arise. You need this list in case you have to replace somethings. You should also have a safe spot out side of the home to put these things to protect them from damage. After all, the damage itself is hard enough to face without losing all the things you own on top of it.

Protecting Your Home

There are some things you can do right now to protect your home from natural disasters. First you should cut away any trees and brush from your home to prevent them from breaking any part of your home. Tornado's bring strong winds that could knock the tree on top of your home and car. Limbs from the tree or brush could pierce your windows. You should also anchor your foundation to prevent alot of damage to your home.

Keep Cash On Hand

It is absolutely vital for you to have cash on hand in case of emergencies. If your city needs you to evacuate, it is good to have money to do that. If there is a blackout in your area, spare cash can get you and your family restaurant food to eat. There are so many things that you can do with money that will help you in times of need.

Electrical Outages

This always seems to happen when there is a severe thunderstorm. Be sure to be prepared by having flashlights and batteries to help you get around your home safely. You should purchase a small energy efficient generator that will turn on automatically when the lights are out, and turn off when the electricity returns. Since we all depend on electricity to give us light, to cook, and to save our perishable foods it is best to stock up on non perishable items that will not go bad during a blackout.
