Necromancy originated in Persia, Greece and Rome, in the Middle Ages. Many witches magicians and sorcerers practiced Necromancy. The Witchcraft Act of 1604, banned the practice of Necromancy, as did the Catholic Church, and the Christian faiths.
Practicer's of Necromancy believe that spirits of the dead are free to roam wherever and when ever they wish, meaning that they can travel into the future or the past. Necromancy has been used for many reasons such as finding out the true cause of death of people who have died, and finding treasure.
Many people believe that the practice of Necromancy is very dangerous in that the spirit can enter a persons body and not leave it for long periods of time. Necromancy is even practiced in Voodoo.
Necromancy is said to work by casting an ancient spell that communicate with powerful spirits to bind the dead. To summon the dead you are said to need a bloody alter and a burnt sacrifice. Preparations are made after studying the planets, the moon, and Saturn for long periods of time, and everything must be just right.
Even deciding on the best site to have the ritual take a lot of thought and consideration. Many of these rituals are performed in deserted forests, vaults, or ruins. Once they find the perfect site for their ritual, they draw a circle inscribed with symbols and crosses on it, and it is called a circle of power.
The person performing the ritual must stand inside the center of the circle of power, along with an assistant, and they must bless the circle. Using the names of power, they call for the dead or spirit to come to them. The spirit is usually full of rage for being taken against his will.
The Necromancer must then obtain control over the spirit to be able to ask it questions, that supposedly the dead must answer. When the Necromancer is finished asking questions he has to send the spirit back to where it came from. The Necromancer has to stay inside the circle of power until it is gone. After the spirit is gone, everything inside the circle has to be burned and then even the ashes must be buried.
Some people claim that the ritual of Necromancy is one of the darkest, most dangerous forms of black magic. Necromancy should never be performed by one person alone.
