What is Next for Taylor Swift?

After last night at the Grammy's, it has been an epic year for Taylor Swift. Her album, Fearless, is multi-platinum status , took home practically every major award such as Album of the Year (Grammy's, ACMA, CMA), Entertainer of the Year (Country Music Association) and she is only 20 years old. So the big questions is what can Taylor Swift do after her domination of 2009.

Television
In 2009, she made two appearances on national television. She played a victim on the hit show, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Although her role was mainly in flashbacks and it was her acting debut, I think she did a decent job and a good start. However, tt was her appearance on Saturday Night Live as the guest host and musical guest that we see a much wider range from Taylor. From her funny Monologue Song (La, La, La) to her entertaining portrayal of an overly loving roommate, Taylor showed she has a good timing for the comedy bits. There were times she looked a little nervous but that is to be expected. The SNL digital short was equally impressive as her parody of Bella was funny in many ways despite looking all serious and melodramatic.

Taylor Swift should definitely land a couple of episodes as a guest star to improve her acting skills. Some shows suggestions would be How I Met your Mother, a serious role in Law and Order, or any of the crime investigation show on CBS and my personal favorite, Glee.

Movies
I do not think Taylor Swift is ready for movies despite her first film is coming out very soon (Valentine's Day, February 2010). The movie is jam packed with A-List actors so the spotlight is everywhere. In the movie, Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner (real life couple) are two athletic high school students who are deeply in love. I think it will barely scratch the surface on Taylor Swift's acting abilities. The movie will also be jumping a lot so this movie is really a romantic comedy with a lot of A-List cameos.

Even though she probably is getting tons of offer to play a country girl or a rising singer, she should stick with television first. She is still only 20 years old. Many of the recent movies that starred a female singer, (Britney Spears in Crossroads, Jessica Simpson in Dukes of Hazzard) were pretty horrible. With the exception of Mandy Moore who took a break from her music and made some decent movies, Taylor Swift should not jump onto the movie scene too soon.

Music
The pressure is on for Taylor Swift to repeat the success of her sophomore CD, Fearless. She definitely is a great songwriter but I think she can reproduce her success in other genres. Some of her songs on Fearless are half-pop and half-country. Def Leppard sang a rock version of "Love Story" on CMT's Crossroads. At the 2009 CMT, Taylor Swift made a hilarious music rap video with T-Pain that showed both her comedy acting skills and a hint of raping. She definitely should stick with country music while branching out other genres by collaborations. Examples would be Stan (Eminem ft. Dido), Empire State of Mind (Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys) or Where'd You Go (Fort Minor ft. Holly Brook). I would love to see something with T-Pain again, Lil' Wayne, or Jason Mraz.

Theater/On-Stage Show
It is a possibility but it requires a lot of acting experience and a lot of commitment. It is really too early to tell but if she thinks she can do it, I think she would do okay. It would not be very great but definitely passable.
