Here are some of the major don'ts when it comes to a company Christmas party.
Don't Drink Too Much Alcohol
Although, many people may not agree with this, I actually recommend that you don't drink any alcohol at the company Christmas party. Alcohol lowers your inhibitions quite dramatically, making it easier for you to embarrass yourself at the company Christmas party. Drinking alcohol at the company Christmas party may lead you to say something that you should not say or do something that you should not so. Remember, that these are the people that you have to see everyday at work, and especially remember that you boss is there. You don't want your fellow co-workers and boss losing respect for you because of something that you said or did at the company Christmas party. If you do decide to drink alcohol at your company Christmas party, make sure to limit to one glass of wine or champagne. Also, definitely remember the designated driver if you are drinking alcohol.
Don't Dress Inappropriately
This actually goes for women and men at company Christmas parties. For men, if your company is having the Christmas party at a nice place or restaurant, don't show up to the company Christmas party wearing jeans and a t-shirt. If you are unsure of what to wear, then ask around to your fellow co-workers to get an idea on what is appropriate for the party. For women, this means that you want to dress conservative to a company Christmas party. Don't try to push the limits by wearing a low-cut dress or top or a short mini-skirt. You may just look trashy and lose the respect of some of your co-workers and even your boss.
Don't Hit On Any of Your Co-workers or Their Spouses
A company Christmas party is not the time or place to find a date or a girlfriend or boyfriend. Don't use this time to hit on a co-worker who you have a crush on, as it is still inappropriate. Never, ever make the mistake of hitting on one of your co-workers or your boss's spouse or date!
Don't Ask Other People About Their Pay or Christmas Bonuses
It is never a good idea to ask other workers what their Christmas bonus was or how much they get paid. In fact, this actually may be against company rules and may get you fired. You can talk about work issues, if you really want, but avoid the subject of pay and Christmas bonuses. It is known of your business and it needs to stay that way, as it may offend your co-workers and may even get you fired.
Don't Be Non-Social
Even if you are newer at your company or don't know that many people, a company Christmas party is a great time to meet new people and get to know the people you work with. Don't just hide in the corner the entire party. Even though you may just be shy and nervous, this may come across like you are stuck-up and too good for other people. So, just relax and be yourself. Introduce yourself to other people who may not know and get involved in conversations at the company Christmas party. This is also a great technique for networking that could pay off in the future for a better position at the company.
Don't Complain
A company Christmas party is not the time to complain about how much work you have to do or how behind you are or anything like that. Leave your complaints at the office and don't bring them to the company Christmas party. Also, if you don't like something about the company Christmas party, don't complain about it at the party. If you don't like the food, then don't eat it. Don't complain about where the party is being held or what is going on. If you are lucky enough to have a job and get a company Christmas party this year, then just be thankful and enjoy it.

Post a CommentExcellent article - especially on your last tip. Too many people are out of work or losing year end bonuses to complain. If you're working, you're lucky.

Excellent advice :)
Really good advice. Lots of people need to read this.
I just been invited out to pub with Uni girls, four of them, it was the first invite in two year. It was good and one of the girls shared with me in a coffee drinker. I am glad now they know me a little bit better and know that I am not stuck up. Working sounds fun though, thanks for the post Tiffany, I enjoyed reading it. Have a super crimbo.
Good ideas.
