What Not to Do During an Interview

Crystal Kincade
There are several things an interviewer should avoid during the interview process, I will narrow it down to only 5 things someone should never do or ask of during an interview:

1) Never talk too much/ too little: Remember to stick to the basic questions at hand. Although we want to advertise and sell ourselves in order to obtain this position, yet, you might realize that you have in fact caused yourself to be over looked. No one wants to hire a person that rambles on and on about things and never has time to get his/her work done. Talking to much is a huge turn off for anyone. Now, talking too little can also hurt your chances in the long run. If you don't provide enough information, or key facts about yourself, you may find that you were completely forgotten at hello. Make sure that you are to the point and provide what is being asked of you, not your whole life story!

2) Never get off track: If your interview is headed in a certain direction, let the Boss take the lead of things. If at any time he wants to move on to another question, then allow him to dictate that option. Do not avoid his questions; answer them as honestly as you can and be strait and to the point.

3) Remain calm and confident: Some bosses like to ask you the surprise question from left field. If you are unsure of what this, allow me to explain. Say you are speaking about your qualifications; you are answering everything he asks, then out of nowhere you are asked what do you think your flaws are? Some people will ask this to throw you off and see how you react to a sudden change, it happens to be a smart strategy. Remain calm and answer the question as it is just that, just another question.

4) Do not be afraid to ask questions: Although some people might think asking questions shows that you have no clue what to do, this is the furthest from the truth. Anyone would rather have a person that asks what needs to be known, rather than someone that guesses their way through their job. If you are unsure of an question, paraphrase it back to the interviewer and ask them if what you stated was correct, they will be happy to direct you towards what they are asking from you.

5) Always be polite: When you enter and leave be polite and greet and dismiss them with a hand shake. In this case, your first and last impression will get you thought of. When you enter, shake their hand and introduce yourself, when you leave, state their name and say it was nice meeting you, I look forward to working with you and I will hear from you soon.

Key: Never talk too much/ too little, never get off track, never lose your cool, never under dress and never be rude to the person that is interviewing you. Stick to these key pointers and you should land a job in no time!
