1. Overselling yourself
It is easy to get caught with talking about all of your accolades. It is okay to mention some of them, but going on and on about them can be a huge turn off. Be confident, not cocky! The employer knows what he is looking for.
2. Showing apparent nervousness
Nerves are a part of life. Most employers will expect some nervousness from an candidate. However, a candidate who is stammering, rambling, and figiting will be a complete turn-off to an employer. I have been the person who didn't relax during an interview and it cost me a great job.
3.Showing up late
You must be on-time. There is no excuse for being late for an interview. You will not get the job after arriving late. I have been late on two separate occasions and knew I was out of the running for the position. To reiterate, being late is NOT an option.
4. Being uprepared
If you are going to an interview, be prepared. If the employer wants extra copies of your resume to hand out, have them ready to go. A good thing to do is to have a checklist of items you need for the interview. The employee can tell when you are not prepared.
5. Dressing in an unprofessional manner
Dressing in an unprofessional manner is unaccepable. You have to dress professionally. The employer will know that you are serious about the position if you do. I was sitting in a waiting room with other candidates and noticed what they were wearing. After observing their attire, I knew I had a really good shot at the job because I wore professional clothing.
