What Not to Give Dad for Father's Day
Here Are Some Items that Fathers Really Don't Want but Won't Tell You
Us dads really don't want tools for Father's Day. Unfortunately when we receive tools it serves as a great excuse for us to work on a project around the house and spend less time relaxing around the house. Tools might seem like a great idea, but keep in mind that every dad out there is not as handy as the common stereotype labels us.
Of course one of the most common "fallback gifts" are socks and ties. Before purchasing these items think if your dad really needs new socks or ties. If they do, then by all means they make an easy present to purchase. Those of that really need and want socks and ties for Father's Day are the minority though. Instead if you are considering purchasing socks and ties go ahead and get us a gift card to a clothing store instead. That way your dad can purchase something he wants. If you want to give him a gift involving clothing, give your dad the gift card for Father's Day along with a note that you'd like to go with him when he picks out his gift so you can spend time with him.
Another suggestion is if you are planning on throwing a surprise party for your dad as a Father's Day present, please reconsider this. Many of us dads are just looking for a nice relaxing day at the house on Father's Day. Yes, we would love to have our children and spouse with us, but we don't want to do something that you have to get dressed up for or go by a schedule for. A nice casual day with our family is great, but when you start organizing a big event, us guys naturally want to be involved in the event itself. That means we are going to spend our Father's Day working instead of relaxing and enjoying ourselves.
I did say I wasn't going to make this an article about what to buy your dads for Father's Day, but I will leave you with one final thought to help you decide what not to buy your dad for Father's Day. Us dads are really very simple, quality time with the ones we love and a day to relax is something that we all appreciate once in awhile, and Father's Day is a great day for this.
