What NOT to Include in Your Cat's Diet

V Saxena
If you intend to adopt a cat soon, then you need to know what you should and what you shouldn't feed it. For the purposes of this article, we will focus on what you should NOT feed it. It is very important that you know what not to feed your feline because giving it the wrong food could potentially harm it.

Baby Food
Never feed your cat baby food. The reason for this is because baby food usually comes with some onion powder in it. If you don't believe me, then just check the ingredients of your baby food. And, it just so happens that onion powder can cause anemia in your cat. Even if the baby food you purchased doesn't have onion powder in it, still don't feed it to your cat. The nutritional needs of a baby are quite different than the nutritional needs of a cat. By feeding your cat baby food, it could eventually become malnourished.

Dog Food
Cats are very different animals from dogs. Therefore, they have tremendously different diets and nutritional needs. Don't feed your cat dog food, and make certain that (in case you have a dog), your cat stays away from your dog's food.

Chocolate
Silly rabbit, chocolates aren't for cats! Chocolate has a substance in it called theobromine. Although we humans can process theobromine without difficulty, cats cannot. In fact, a cat who consumes chocolate could end up becoming poisoned from theobromine poisoning. This, in turn, will lead to an abnormal heart rate, vomiting, and even a seizure. Therefore, keep chocolate for yourself instead!

Anything Sugary
Avoid feeding your cat anything sugary. It can lead to dental problems and also obesity. There is no need to train your cat into becoming a 'Garfield'!

Raw Fish
Your cat may go bonkers every time that you bring home a fish sandwich or cook some catfish. It is okay, although not advisable, to give it a bite. However, never give your cat raw fish. Your cat's digestive system is not strong enough to remove any harmful bacteria that may be in it.

Bones
Cats are not the bone chewers that dogs are. Although cats enjoy playing with bones, don't let your cat play with a bone. It could choke on it.

Coffee
Coffee is extremely hazardous to a cat. Just a few teaspoons of it could poison your cat. So, if you happen to be a frequent coffee drinker, just make sure that it cannot be reached by your cat. Cats are oftentimes fond of jumping on tables and devouring or drinking anything they can get their little paws on. Protect your coffee drinks, and also clean up any spilled coffee grounds.
