Do not leave your laptop in hot vehicle
During summer months if you leave you laptop in a hot car with the windows rolled up you can totally damage your laptop. Laptops plastic case and keyboard can melt under extreme heat. You LCD screen can crack from the heat. Winter time is not any better your screen can crack under extreme cold conditions. Once your LCD screen cracks you might as well just throw the laptop in the trash.
Do not use open containers of liquid around your laptop
If you spill liquid on your desktop keyboard you just buy a new keyboard and your back in business. You spill liquid on your laptop keyboard than your laptop can be permanently damaged. That liquid will fry out the motherboard and if it contains sugar your keys will stick and not function. Keep open food containers away from it as well food can gum up the keyboard.

More laptops have been damaged from being dropped. If you have a cheap case or no case at all you can risk dropping or accidentally smacking your laptop and damaging the LCD screen. You can also crack the chassis. Once it becomes cracked dust and dirt can get in.

Post a Commentya! I've only had my laptop for 4 weeks now. And I don't eat, drink near it. I wash my hands at least 5 times a day. everytime I want to go on I wash them. I keep my keyboard nice and clean. It ain't a good idea to shut your laptop down everytime ur finished it is best to put it in sleep mode.
I agree, "throwing it in the trash" is completely wrong. You can just hook up a regular monitor too it and use it like a regular desktop PC. Otherwise, you can sometimes get them replaced. I picked up a laptop at a rummage sale for $3 with a cracked screen. I hooked up a CRT monitor to it, and a USB keyboard (cost me $10). It's running Fedora on it right now. I use it for web design and running a Counter-Strike LAN server on.
It costs more than $300 to fix the screen. I worked for Gateway a few years back screen replacements started at $700. Of course we did not manufacture value notebooks than.
I disagree with the "just throw it away if you crack your laptop's screen" attitude. If I have a $1,400 laptop and crack the screen, I would rather pay the $300 (estimated) bill to fix the screen than trash the entire system. And if I did not have the money for the repair, I can always plug in an external monitor and use the laptop as if it were a desktop.
Great tips, thanks!
Good tips. Thanks.
Thanks for the tips!!
Thanks for the advice. I'm guilty of drinking water while working and having it right next to the laptop, but no more as it's not worth ruining my laptop.
Thanks for the article-as I think about buying a laptop versus PC.
Good things to keep in mind.
