- Remember to smile. Smiling always makes a good impression. It shows that you are friendly and happy. You don't have to smile consistently. You want to actually avoid smiling consistently that could seem really weird; instead you should just have a friendly aurora about you.
- You must avoid ignoring others. People who are more introverted tend not to introduce themselves and this can be a big mistake to make when meeting the family. If someone enters the room where you are and they don't make eye contact with you don't ignore them. If your partner or his family members don't introduce you then introduce yourself to them. If you don't feel comfortable introducing yourself at least say hi and make eye contact.
- Make small talk or at least be open to making small talk. If you are not the least bit talkative then the family might view you as snobby and stuck up. If they think that you are stuck up they will began to tell the whole family that you are like this and you will have a tough time breaking them from viewing you like this. Try to avoid answering questions with yes or no. Try your best to elaborate on your answer. Sometimes it is best to talk a lot rather than talking too little. When you don't talk much you come off as mysterious and aloof and you don't want this.
- It is extremely important to be friendly with the children. If the kids like you then you are in. Kids are very important members in the family and so it is best to make sure that they feel comfortable around your company. Even if you don't like kids you will need to pretend to like them. Don't be sarcastic or mean to the kids instead be open and friendly.
- Be confident. Express yourself confidently and you are more likely to be accepted by the family. The parents want to see that their son's girlfriend is healthy in emotion and mind. Exuding confidence shows that you are strong and stable.
- Be helpful. If you notice an older person struggling with something don't be afraid to approach them and ask them for help. Being helpful shows that you are a compassionate person and this is a good first impression to make.
- Remain truthful. There is nothing worse than someone who is deceitful. You might find that the family asked you personal information or information about your past. You should answer those questions to the best of your ability. If however you do not feel comfortable answering certain questions then you can kindly let them know that you are not comfortable answering. Saying that you are not comfortable answering certain questions might make the family think twice about you. Just try your best to be truthful and all will go well.
- Avoid showing risqu© affection to your partner such as long kisses and leg rubbing. Giving short hugs and placing your arm around your partner's shoulder should be fine. You want to hold on to your decency in front of the parents.
- Lastly, you want to make friends with all women in the household. You might have heard this saying before that women hold up the household, so make sure that you make a good impression on them. Just relax, be friendly and open and it should go well.
