What Not to Do Once You Make it into College

College is Something You Have Never Encountered Before, and You Need to Be Ready for It

College is completely different than anything you have ever encountered at any time in your life. You probably already know and understand that fact, but you won't really realize it until you are actually there. The effort and time required for everything in college is something that is going to shock you. All of your schooling before college may have come very easy for you, but college is an entirely different monster, a monster that will eat you alive if you are completely ready for it.

Everyone knows college is filled with parties, and can be a great time. You need to realize however that there is a time for fun and a time for work. Some people will tell you that you need to forget about all of the parties, and just concentrate solely on your school work. While this may give you that perfect 4.0 it's not very practical, and somewhat ridiculous. College is a time for interaction and the main way to do this is maybe not through parties, but what college kid can resist going to a few parties.

However the first mistake, and one of the biggest things you cannot do once you are in college, is party too much. Too much partying can cause a chain reaction. What I mean by that is first off if your out partying when you should be doing work or studying then you are not going to hand in an assignment, or be properly prepared for the upcoming test. If you go home late and have a hangover the next morning getting up for class can be a hassle and you will probably find yourself deciding to not even get out of bed more often then not, so now your missing classes. Now let's say you do manage to actually roll out of bed and make it to class. Well in that case there is no way you are going to be able to give your full concentration to the class. Basically what too much partying spells is a bad idea. Now I didn't say no partying because that can just drive someone crazy, but you need to know when the right and wrong time is.

The second reason that many freshman don't do well their first year is the belief that they don't really have to do much because they did well in high school with very little effort. This is a belief that can absolutely ruin an entire year. By the time you realize that this belief isn't really true it is too late to turn things around. Like I said before college is something different than what anyone has ever encountered. It requires skills that were not harnessed in high school, and therefore someone that quite possibly was valedictorian in high school, may be at the bottom of his or her college class because they believed it would be easy for them.

College is quite possibly the most important thing that anyone can encounter throughout their life. College prepares you for the real world. It is designed to be the toughest thing you will probably ever do, but it is also designed to be fun. Everyone knows about all the parties in college, but a successful student understands the correct time to party. That student also understands that the way they approached high school will definitely not work in college. It may be a broken record to hear that last statement, but it is so true.
