What Not to Do on Your Wedding Night

A Tune to Avoid: Honeymoon Blues

Michele Starkey
Did you hear the one about the Massachusetts couple who spent their wedding night in separate jail cells? You just can't make this stuff up folks.

Apparently, the bride was enraged when she spotted her new husband's former flame and she tried to extinguish her candle by driving over her in a parking lot! Can you imagine what the groom was thinking -

"Maybe I should have waited to marry this looney tune!"

The 22-yr-old bride and 37-yr-old groom ended up spending the honeymoon night in separate jail cells. The bride was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (her car) and the groom was charged with disorderly conduct (because he was riding in the car). Maybe from now on - he'll insist on doing all the driving!

I started thinking about some of the strangest weddings we've ever attended - believe me, we've encountered everything from the groom who passed out at the alter to the bride who hiccupped her way through the vows. There was the couple who knelt at the alter and the groom split his pants! And, the groom who dropped the ring and it rolled all the way down the aisle. But, never have we ever gone to a wedding and had the bride and groom end up in jail before.

Oh, we've had our fair share of attendants and attendees end up in the slammer - too much to drink and a rowdy crowd fight ensued. Police were called, people arrested, end of party. But, that was years ago and lately, the weddings have been pretty mundane.

I wonder if her age comes into play with this? I mean, after all, there is a fifteen year difference between the two of them. Then again, I know many 22 year olds who would never use their car as a deadly weapon - they love their cars too much.

In the end, after spending their honeymoon in the separate jail cells, the couple went home to begin their lives together as man and wife. You can betcha this guy will never double cross his wife - or even think about it - as long as she has a driver's license!

Geez, don't people have any class nowadays? And what was the old flame doing at the wedding anyway?

Witty, true about men and their cars. I know someone who's never had a girlfriend, and he makes love with his car every weekend, stroking her with his chamois leather. Give me a woman everytime, really!
