I would like to take a moment to first address the concept of stewardship, and then I will focus on how it applies to our economy today. The term steward is defined as a person who manages another's property or financial affairs; one who administers anything as the agent of another or others. This title of steward directly applies to President Barack Obama. He has been given the ultimate responsibility of stewardship over this nation's finances, healthcare, security, and much more.
As a proclaimed Christian, President Obama should be well aware of the significance of such a role in God's eyes. President Obama should also be aware of what is required of a steward. In 1 Corinthians 4:1, 2, God tells us that there is just one thing required of a steward; that a man be found faithful. God requires only this one thing of a steward, that he be responsible and do his best with what God has given him stewardship over; in this case our nation, the United States of America.
So by now you may be asking what this has to do with our economy. My friends, it has everything to do with our economy. God will bless those who are good stewards and faithful with what He has given them. God is bound by His own promise to take care of those who are faithful in their stewardship.
On the other hand, God will not bless those who are poor stewards over the things He has given them. No matter what economic plan President Obama puts into place, God will not honor our nation using funds for ungodly practices.
Our nation is already in an economic downslide. Why are we giving our financial support to abortion programs, not only within our borders, but overseas as well? I do not believe that taxpayers should be forced into funding abortions in our own country, much less paying for the procedures to be done abroad. Is this really what God would have us do with the money He has so graciously blessed us with? How can God bless a nation who not only misdirects, but also misuses what He has given us?
An economic stimulus plan has been passed that is far from displaying good stewardship principles. How is it that spending millions of dollars on contraceptives is displaying good stewardship over our money? It will not promote Godly principles, and it will not stimulate our economy.
Not only does the economic stimulus bill promote ungodly practices, but it creates more debt instead of relieving the burden. Approximately $6,700 per household of new debt will be created and passed along to our children and their children to come.
Our economic downfall began with those who over borrowed on homes, and by financial institutions making bad judgments on investments. So how is it that our government borrowing $800 billion is going to solve this crisis? You cannot correct a problem caused by reckless borrowing with more borrowing. Proverbs warns against the bondage of debt and financial pressure.
I believe that if we take the responsibility of stewardship seriously and strive to honor God in all that we do, He will bless us in return. Our sole responsibility as stewards is to honor and glorify God. (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Dear Mr. President, if you wish to stimulate our economy, please remember the principles of good stewardship and God's reward in return. God will bless our economy if we are good and faithful stewards over what He has given us. If we are not good stewards, we will be judged, (2 Corinthians 5:10), and God will take away that which He has given us stewardship over. (Luke 16)

Post a CommentI am sorry to hear of your losses. And I do understand that not every person lost their homes due to financial mismanagment. I am more referring to the mismanagement of our government and its responsibilities. And a lot of our downfall did indeed come from the people's mismanagement, but in large part the financial institutions making bad lending decisions.
My point in even bringing up this aspect is to simply show that continued borrowing and bad lending can only make a bad situation worse.
I do also agree that the government should be held accountable by the people, but a majority of our country is in a mental state of believing that Obama can solve all our problems, so they will not be discerning when looking at his policies and decisions. Obama is just another person, politician, and more than capable of making mistakes, and this is where people have become disillusioned. I only wish the people WOULD hold the government responsible!!!
It appears you assume much insofar as the whys people have lost their homes, but Congress is coming up with the same solutions as last time, instead of regulating these banks and lenders and protecting the American citizens from their abusive lending policies and practices, and also their support for these corporate interests (the bailout) at the cost of Americans and their children. These are not representatives of anyone except their campaign contributors. And it is not God, but the American people that also owe a duty to starting holding them accountable in more ways than simply voting - but exposure of their corruption and failure to honor their oaths of office to our Constitution, which was also ordained.
Great article. But as one who lost her home during this tsunami let me say that you have made some assumptions that are incorrect. It is much more complex than that. I lost mine because during the boom my property taxes went sky high, my insurance rates doubled, I had four illegal immigrant thefts in the last five years (Arizona is under invasion now from Mexico) and had to refinance in order to pay those costs. When I went to refinance, the fixed rate loan now is going the way of the assumable loans of the past - you can only get them if you have sterling credit, and of course due to what was occurring, my credit was no longer sterling. The highest foreclosure states are the border states, and also those where the boom increased property values, along with taxes and insurance and other costs. So while your take on stewardship is correct, don't assume what the media has left out. Also, the S&L crisis actually is what lead to this disaster when Congress used the same fix that tim
