What to Do About Our Economy

Just a Thought

I have never believed that money made the world go 'round. I did not marry for money, did not choose my jobs based on the money and get excited when I have an opportunity to give money to those in need. However, in these hard times, money has become a focus in my mind. I am not worried about myself as I am sure I will be fine. I am concerned about the thousands of people that are losing their jobs.

Why are there so many layoffs? How did business get so bad? Is it due to the economy as a whole or did the company mismanage their funds? The economy is bad, but laying off workers only makes it worse. Now, there are more people with less money to spend and so the cycle continues. Why not find other ways to save money without completely severing the employee/employer relationship. If it were up to me, I would reduce everyone's pay for a while to get the economy back on track. I understand that some people may not agree to have their pay cut, but wouldn't that be better than no pay at all? If things continue the way they are going, we may all be out of a job and living on the streets. We should put the entire United States on a pay freeze and reduction. This would also mean that cost of necessities must be lowered as well. Everyone should stop and look around. There are people that are hurting in our country and we still want more and more. The rich continue to get rich and the poor fall further and further behind. I admit that having my pay cut would cramp my style, but in the end and if it helps our country, then I am all for it. I have read where there are companies that need to reduce their payroll by 10 percent and they see it as cutting employees. Why? Wouldn't it be better and more beneficial for everyone if they were to reduce everyone's pay by a small amount? If they were to do this, the result would hardly be noticed in the employees' paychecks, no one would be out of work and the company would still meet their goals.

To me this makes sense and I am more than willing to give up 10 percent of my earnings if it would help our economy and prevent employees from losing their jobs. How do we get the rest of the country on board?
