Instead you have to let that person go, no matter how much it hurts. You need to give them space so that they can think about your relationship, and figure out if it's something that they will really miss. If it was really meant to be, it will happen, some way or another, whether you get back together after a couple weeks, a couple months, or a couple years. You need to still try to remain friends. Don't simply shut off all contact with your loved one. If you really love them you will be able to remain friends while giving the person space to figure out what is best.
Always remember that there is someone for everyone. Maybe this person is the one for you, maybe they aren't. The only way you'll really find out is if you spend some time not together. You need to meet new people during that time, and make stronger friendships with others. Talk to other people, whether it's a boy or girl, to see if they might make a better companion. In the end, it will all work out. Just remember don't severe your ties with that loved one, but give them space. Only time will tell what will happen between you two in the future. You may actually end up being a better fit for someone else that you have not even met yet. Live life like you are still looking for that perfect person, not like you are waiting around for the one who doesn't want you. If you are really meant to be it will happen, so stop worrying about it and go out there and enjoy life before it is too late.
