What is a Pirate?

A Pirate is Not Always a Pirate, I Think

Nora Nick
If Peter Pan were not so bold
He would have left Captain Kidd alone.
Yet, he provoked the hooked pirate
And laughed hysterical as the croc he guided.

And, Captain Kidd, had no home
As pirates seldom claim a country address.
Of course, our latest pirates
Are from Somalia and claim to need ransom
As they have no other economic source?

Such pirates are not pirates in my book
What they've done is declare war.
The ransoms they charge are for invading their waters
And they are like the proverbial trolls seeking pay for crossing.

And, if the world were not so kindhearted
The country of such war barterers would be pounded.
By those who had their lives held as ransom
By kidnappers with an attitude they presume on the world's pity.
