The first thing you should expect is to be in pain. You just went through a common but major surgery. Usually your incision will lay just above your pubic line under your belly. Depending on how over weight you are this can determine your pain level. I for example being very overweight felt a lot of pain pulling down from my belly. You will be given pain medications to help this feeling. Although some women are opposed to pain medications I personally would recommend them. You will begin to feel better the more you move and if you are in too much pain to move then your not going to want to get up. The more you move the faster you heal.
Another thing you should expect is to not fit into hospital underwear. Usually they give women who have had a C Section a mesh kind of underwear. Unfortunately, one size does not fit most. To be more comfortable, buy big granny panties. You don't want hip huggers, fancy satin or lace. Get the ugly, white grannies and maybe get them a little bigger than normal. You want them bigger so that they will not sit on your incision. The last thing you want to do is irritate that already tender part of your body.
Some other things you may want to have available both for the hospital and for home are sanitary napkins and "hospital"issue sanitary napkins. Everyone has a special brand of feminine napkins that they are used to. Nothing can be more annoying than wearing a cheap, uncomfortable feminine pad. When you get home, you will need the hospital issue sanitary napkins. These can be found at Walgreens or CVS. They are thick non adhesive feminine napkins that can be used instead of gauze over your incision. Gauze can get really expensive very fast. By purchasing the hospital issue napkins you not only save money but they have more padding and can absorb more fluid as some incisions may leak for weeks after surgery.
Cesarean Sections can be painful for all shapes and sizes of women. However, some woman, due to weight may experience more pain than others. My article wasn't intended to scare anyone if it did I hope that you will accept my apology. I wrote this to inform the plus sized woman of hardships she may endure that her smaller friends may have not experienced. I hope that my personal experience was able to help another woman somewhere for her Cesarean Section.
