What Are Private Label Rights

Guy Siverson
What are private label rights are many things to many people. When it comes to the Web this is one of the best definitions I have found.

"Private label rights is a concept similar to reselling, but the merchant is permitted to modify the product to fit his or her needs."
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_label_rights

But then enter in such terms as "Master Resell Rights" and what the difference between the two are.

Let's first look at "Master Resell Rights" and then we can develop the distinction between the two.

'If you have a product with "Master Resale Rights" this means you can resell the product and keep 100% of the profits. You cannot alter it in any way but it's yours to sell as is.'

So with private label rights (PLR) you can modify the content to fit your own needs and purposes. So someone created an article that you want to use and gave it PLR rights. The only thing is you want to use a different long tail keyword as your focus. With PLR rights you are totally within your legal rights to do so.

On the other hand, "Master Resale Rights" do not give you the ability to alter the article in any manner. Doing so with these types of terms involved could lead you toward legal issues if the creator of the content chooses to pursue their rights.

I personally avoid both types of rights within my own Web content for one big reason.

If I put out articles that appear to be rehashed which originated elsewhere that I have tweaked to fit my purposes my content will not be looked at as favorably as if I created my own content. Original content is much more appreciated by the search engines and people in general for that matter.

People don't want to read the same content on your site that they have read elsewhere. Just think what that would do to your credibility.

It's not that hard either.

Gone are the days of lengthy paragraphs, dramatic pros and prolonged thoughts. Today people look for...

  • Short paragraphs with bullets and numbers.
  • Brief articles that get to the point in 300 to 500 words.
  • Easy to understand content that they can quickly implement.

These are the types of things people look for. So stop worrying about what are Private Label Rights compared to Master Resale Rights and start creating your own content instead.
