When our Angels presented us with the PeeKS Group project, "psychic" was the word we were asked to use. It pushes peoples' buttons, gets attention, but most importantly, it's the most accurate, all-encompassing word to describe the multitude of intuitive abilities and gifts people possess. So just what is a psychic and why should you consult with one?
According to Merriam-Webster, the root word "psyche," of Greek origin, pertains to the soul1. So a psychic then might be defined as "one who sees the soul." Now that doesn't sound so bad or scary ... unless there are things in your soul you'd rather keep hidden! Perhaps that's where the bad press began. People may worry a psychic can read your soul, pulling out all your skeletons with total abandon of your privacy. WRONG! A psychic is only privy to the information that will most help you.
We don't want free reign of the thoughts, dreams, emotions, and grievances of every person we meet. This is too much for anyone to handle! As psychics, we must adhere to boundaries, guidelines and unspoken rules of ethics. We do this for our own sanity and out of respect for the people all around us.
There are instances I know more than I care to know. This is part of the gift, and neither you nor I can control it. In this way, the unspoken ethical rules of engagement are beneficial and even appreciated. Sometimes I see or know things I wish I hadn't. When I was 12, I walked into a house and felt so sick, so weak, I thought I would fall over. As we left, my Dad shared that a double murder had occurred there. This is a perfect example of knowing more than I cared to!
In the naiveté of my youth, I thought being psychic would make me special. As a kid who felt alone and isolated, I thought having these gifts would make me more loved. In fact, just the opposite occurred. Rather than being accepted and respected for the insights I saw, dreamt and felt, I was rejected by those in whom I confided. I was ridiculed for my gifts and shunned for the things I revealed. As a psychic kid, I learned to suppress my abilities hoping I would be loved in return.
My understanding over the years has been revised, and shifts each time I enter a new phase of my own development. From where I now stand, I believe a psychic is a sensitive individual. We sense things others do not. We feel, hear, taste, smell, and touch with an added oomph! Many of us have no choice but to follow these extra-sensory messages and develop our intuition accordingly. This sixth sense aids us in making decisions, keeping us safe, and improving our quality of life so we may evolve and grow.
Ask an Aborigine of the Outback or a Grandfather Navajo of the Americas and they will tell you everything is alive. So much more is alive in our physical world than what we choose to see. Enter a forest at night, where your sense of sight is greatly compromised, and you'll be immediately reminded of how much we don't see in our day-to-day lives! The spirit of a mountain, a lake, an aspen tree, or even the spirit and power of a bear is as important to your well-being as your parents, and often more revered by the cultures who respect the invisible world.
Psychics are able to experience the invisible world around us. The invisible world has lived alongside the physical day-to-day world since the Earth was created. At some points throughout history, the invisible world was the more prevalent world, in fact! The workings of the invisible energetic world include healing with energy, the movement of energy throughout the human body, and the movement of energy within the planet Earth which gives life to the trees, grass, animals, the ocean, the mountains, etc. Strip away the science, or the need to define and label everything, and you are left with a world who truly is magical: the trees coming back to life in the springtime, the ability of a bird to fly, or even the non-stop flowing river. This is the true magic, the true miracle, the true magnificence of life! It is this magic, this invisible energy, this invisible world, the psychic is able to connect with to help people.
Does this mean these wise traditions are filled with people who are psychic? Well, actually ...yes, because they acknowledge, pay attention to, and incorporate in their daily lives the wisdom from these majestic beings. Healers in these traditions are often the most respected for they dedicate their lives to working with the invisible to help their community. Though they may not call themselves "psychic," by my definition they certainly are.
We aren't psychic to make us special. This would be a waste of energy--and the natural world is all about a fair, sustainable distribution of energy which serves the whole. We are psychic so we can help. We psychics can help people to live their best life! We can help you find lost pets or loved ones. We can help you feel peace and inspiration by delivering messages from your Angels or loved ones who have transitioned. We can help heal you energetically in ways which sometimes even surprise us. We can help by sharing guidance, wisdom and loving advice from the Spirit Guides dedicated to protecting and serving you. We are psychic not to make us special but to serve the world!
Being psychic is not a gift, but it is a privilege to see and experience the unseen all around us. It also carries a huge responsibility to serve in a way which empowers our fellow brothers and sisters with whom we share the planet. To learn from all the worlds (especially the invisible ones) ... to receive lessons and guidance from my Angels and Guides ... to see in the darkness (without using my sense of sight) makes me feel alive.
To help others feel this vibrancy of life is my calling and my passion. Teaching kids and teens to stay open to the natural experience of being connected to the invisible world is vital to the health of our species and our planet. To assist our future leaders in remaining open to the guidance and wisdom of their spirit helpers is an essential foundation of feeling safe and secure in this, often unstable, world. No matter where we go, what we do, or who we become, the unseen world and its Guides will always be here to keep us in integrity to ourselves, to one another, and to the natural world around us.
By paying attention to our sixth sense (which we are ALL born with), we're always guided toward choosing what is our "next step" in life and what direction will aid us best on our life journey. This gift of self-awareness and connectedness makes life more meaningful and rewarding. Close communication with our Spirit Helpers, Angels and loved ones who have passed keeps us safe and keeps us dedicated to living our best life.
Sometimes we all need a reminder--a realignment to help us feel this connection again. Authentic psychics and healers can be found everywhere, and most even offer phone consultations! Find one you resonate with, reach out and ask for help and get ready for the best adventure of your life to begin.
