What to Put into a Baby Gift Basket

Dear Auntie
You have had the call...your friend has delivered of a healthy bouncing baby and now its time to rush out and buy some gifts or the invite to the baby shower, baptism or naming ceremony has just arrived. You want to show how happy you are for the family and give them that special gift.

Have you ever considered a baby gift basket? These usually hold a variety of gifts (large or small) and can be themed. Of course these can be purchased but it is much more fun and personal to put your own together and it is such fun to see the parents delight as they pick up each item from the basket.

You could include smaller items such as rattles, pacifiers, teethers, feeding bottles, infant cups, bibs and spoons these are practical and much need items. Clothes are also an idea to add especially if the sex of the baby is already known. Oh and don't forget receiving blankets...you can never have too many of these.

Or you could consider bath-time and add baby shampoo, baby powder, baby towels (the hooded ones are great!), wipes, baby body wash, tub toys and hairbrush. Tub toys may seem a bit premature but it won't be long before that baby is ready to splash around with the toys.

Larger items can also be added for example colorful crib mobiles, layettes, changing mats for tables and the crib and if you really wish to make it deluxe even baby furniture.

If the family already has a child or children it might be an idea to include a little something for them as well. You may even want to include something for Mom and Dad.

A gift basket that will be given at a baby shower could include announcement cards, small picture frames and photo albums. You could also include some pampering items such as aromatherapy lotion for Mom and Dad to use during the labor. And for after the birth gourmet food and wine could be in the gift basket as way of celebration.

If the basket is to be presented at a Baptism or naming ceremony it could include a children's bible, a silver spoon, silver cups or anything that pertains to that particular family's religious beliefs.

Gifts that are personalized and made by the giver show special care and attention. The recipient of each gift knows that a lot of thought and time went into the gift. And the biggest reward you will receive is that smile when the recipient opens your gift up
