Trustworthy
Brides should look at prospective bridesmaids in terms of how trustworthy they are. Can they be trusted to make bookings, pick up flowers, dresses and deal with money? Bridesmaids are usually very close friends or family members. The benefit of choosing someone well known to the bride is that they are more likely to make a wise choice if they are very well acquainted with the person they plan on asking to become their bridesmaid rather than someone they have just known for a short time.
Puts Your Interests First
The bride and groom should only be interested in asking a woman to be their bridesmaid who is going to put their needs before their own prior to the wedding, during the wedding ceremony and afterwards too. A woman who is known as selfish and very self absorbed might not be the best choice of bridesmaid.
Not Competitive with the Bride
All eyes should be focused on the bride on the wedding day as the bridesmaid stands in the background as a complement of the bridal picture of happiness. But if you choose a woman who is competitive, argues with the bride and wants a bridesmaid's dress to rival the wedding dress, then you should carefully re-consider your choice of bridesmaid.
Gets along well with your Fiancé
It goes without saying that the bridesmaid you choose to support and represent you on your wedding day should get along well with your fiancé. If she shows an obvious dislike for your fiancé, then you should look elsewhere for a bridesmaid who is more agreeable towards your fiancé.
These are just a few points to look out for when trying to decide who should be your chief bridesmaid. It is better to take the time to choose carefully and make the right decision first time rather than face the rather daunting task of telling someone they are no longer welcome in your inner circle as your chief bridesmaid on your wedding day.

Nicely done.
This adds a lot of perspective. It is something new brides should consider.
