What You're Missing when Flying on Budget Airlines

Henry Lamb
Low-cost carriers were first made popular in the United States in the late 1940s. Basically, these are services that offer low-fare operations. This means that there are certain amenities and services that are not offered on these particular airlines. This means that passengers do not get to reserve seats; it's more like a first-come first-served program that takes place. It also means that airline tickets are more readily available without having to present an important document like a passport. This has made domestic travel by plane within countries more accessible to the masses.

But have you ever thought of the other things that are sacrificed when taking a low-cost flight? A no-frills flight may not seem like there is nothing to lose but the term "no-frills" means a lot more than just missing the niceties. Here is a list of things that nobody really thinks about especially when zipping in and out of cities on business.

Comfort

Although this is something that can be done away with for a lot of passengers who want to save money, health should still be the main concern even when traveling. Long-haul flights can prove to be very harrowing and cause great discomfort to people because the body cannot handle a large dose of inactivity for a very long time. Although it is advised to stretch when you can on long flights, not everybody will have the time to do so especially on a crowded plane.

Security

Aside from the possibility of losing your luggage because of a low-quality service error made at the airport, there is also the risk that you take in flying with a cheaper airline. One of the reasons that it is cheaper is the fact that some of the planes being used by these services are quite old. A lot of money is also saved from not training enough staff. Airlines do this to reduce service costs. This means that there is not enough staff to tend to the many people onboard a plane should something disastrous happens. This may not happen on a regular basis but the risk exists nevertheless.

Environmental Obligation

People sacrifice not only their own personal safety but the safety of our own planet. Low-cost carriers save on a lot of fuel expenses but this type of transport has been reported to contribute to global warming through its carbon emissions. With the growth of the low-cost carrier trend on a global scale because of low-cost operations, this could mean even more trouble for the Earth's environmental situation.

The next time you go onboard a plane with "no-frills" remember the small risks that you take which may up costing you a lot in the future. Will it be worth it to save a few dollars and cents knowing the dangers that you go through with each traveling day? Although services like this have made it an easier world to see and travel across, the airlines must also realize that although they offer a cheaper service, its sacrifices must not be so great.
