What Are You Really Feeding Your Family?

Read Those Food Labels

I read recently that McDonald's Chicken McNuggets are preserved with a petroleum product and an antifoaming agent that is used in hair and skin conditioners . You could make your own healthy chicken nuggets at home in your kitchen . Dice a chicken breast into chunks , roll them in a mixture of flour , spices , salt and pepper and deep fry them in hot vegetable oil . This is a quick and easy way to serve good healthy food to your kids .

I can't imagine serving my family or friends brownies that contain carnauba wax . Carnauba wax is resin produced by a palm tree and it is used for maintaining the painted finish on automobiles , shoes and floors .

A little flour mixed with some cocoa , sugar , eggs , and baking soda and popped into the oven will make delicious brownies just as fast as the ones from the box . We would all have healthier bodies without all the preservatives , food dyes and petroleum products that are contained in many of the products on the grocery shelf .

Canned icing contains sugar , vegetable oil , water , corn syrup and salt . Added to that is titanium dioxide , yellow and red food color , artificial flavors , lactic acid , sodium acid pyrophosphate , citric acid and sodium citrate . Lactic acid is a produced from sour dairy products and can cause fatigue and sore muscles .

Just for the fun of it try making icing with real butter , powdered sugar , a touch of milk and vanilla flavoring . Whip it up in your mixer or just a fork and your family will love the flavor and it is much healthier .

A box of banana pudding mix contains sugar , food starch , dextrose , disodium phosphate , salt , artificial flavor , non - fat dry milk , soybean oil , titanium dioxide and food color . Not even one banana is contained in this product . Titanium dioxide is used in making rubber , paper and paint . It carries a health risk of skin irritation and lung damage and is often used as a color additive to toothpaste .

Try mixing some milk , sugar , cornstarch and eggs in a pan and cook until thickened . Pour into a bowl and add a couple of sliced bananas and serve that to the kids . It is delicious and they will help them grow healthy bodies .

Exact recipes can be found in cookbooks , magazines or internet sites . I challenge you to read labels and become familiar with the products that you are bringing to the family table . Homemade recipes will produce tastier meals and desserts and your family will be healthier without all the additives and you will have the added bonus of saving money .
