What Recruiters Must Consider when Using Job Boards

You have positions to fill and you are faced with the problem of recruiting people to take them. Although this can be a daunting task, you can pull it off by taking the proper steps. You will learn things recruiting companies should consider when advertising for help on a job board.

The cost for running a help-wanted ad. Before you post it, you should find out what different publications and online job search web sites charge and then decide how long to use the service based on what you can afford and the type of response you expect to get from potential job applicants.

It would not kill you to reveal your firm's name. You never know when a potential hire will expect to see it. I like to know who is running an ad I am responding to. I once read about someone complaining that many firms do not reveal their names when posting help-wanted ads. In my opinion, omitting your name implies you have something to hide and that you are simply playing games.

It is courteous and helpful to include your telephone number, E-mail address and location. In addition to leaving the impression that you are one who is professional, this can make things easier for candidates who like to follow up on the ads they have answered. However, if you do not want applicants to initiate contact, you should specify this while only revealing your company identity.

You should describe the position and mention the qualifications that are required for it. Although it is neither practical nor expected of you to give every detail, you must at least give a brief summary of the position and list most of the desired qualifications in order to avoid wasting your time and others' time.

If you are adamant about only talking with those who meet the qualifications, you must say so. You can say, "Only those with the required experience and skills need apply."

It is vital to avoid frustration on your behalf and that of the applicants. You will do everyone a favor by stating how you want the resumes and cover letters submitted.

You should be prepared to view a lot of resumes and set up interviews. You can expect to get a lot of replies.

Have you already filled a vacancy internally? If so, you should not advertise for help and waste others' time.

You must include your web site address. This will make it easy for applicants to do research on your firm before their interview.

You have learned things recruiting companies should consider when advertising on a job board.
